POSITION: FT Plant Operator I

SALARY: $31.44/hr. after probation

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Completion of the twelfth school grade or GED; Three (3) years’ work experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance or one (1) year wastewater and/or water treatment experience. Possession of valid Class B Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement. Knowledge of wastewater and/or water quality standards. Knowledge of the operation of wastewater and/or water treatment equipment. Ability to analyze and interpret lab tests, practices and procedures. Ability to perform equipment maintenance and repair. Skill in the use of various hand and power tools. Erie County residency preferred.
Pre-employment physical and drug screen required.

2021-036 ERIE COUNTY JOB OPENING ANNOUNCEMENT
Description of the Job:
Under supervision of the Utilities Director and Wastewater Superintendent. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of a wastewater plant and equipment.
Essential Functions to be Performed:
- Checks and monitors automatic pumps, valves, blowers, tanks, screens and other equipment in the wastewater treatment plants and/or water plant.
- Collects samples of wastewater and/or water in various stages of the treatment system.
- Performs laboratory analysis on raw and effluent wastewater and/or potable water.
- Interprets results; takes and interprets reading of temperatures, pressure, weight, flow, chemical content, etc. which are obtained from various gauges and meters.
- Adjusts chemical dosage.
- Operates and inspects various vehicles and equipment.
- Works with telemetry computer to detriment system status and needs.
- Assists in small purchases and receiving, storing and issuing of supplies, tools and equipment.
- Performs basic routine maintenance and makes a necessary repairs.
- Works irregular hours or expanded hours in cases of emergencies;
- Notifies Assistant Superintendent when additional supplies, equipment or repairs are needed.
Other Functions to be Performed:
- Cleans and maintains the plant structure and surrounding grounds.
- Removes snow, mows grass, paints and cleans interior and exterior surfaces.
- Empties trash.
- Assists in maintaining inventory of equipment; supplies and vehicles.
- Communicates information to general public, personnel, contractors, suppliers, etc. responding to inquiries and complaints.
- May assist in orienting and training employees.
- May assist in an explanation of policies and procedures.
- Maintains, records, complies data and prepares reports as required.
- Attends meetings and seminars.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of the twelfth school grade or GED.
- Three (3) years of work experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance or one (1) year wastewater and/or water treatment experience.
- Possession of a valid Class B, Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement requires three written tests: (General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Tanker.)
- Knowledge of wastewater and/or water quality standards.
- Knowledge of the operation of wastewater and/or water treatment equipment.
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of public relations.
- Knowledge of equipment operation, maintenance and repair.
- Ability to analyze and interpret lab tests, practices and procedures.
- Ability to perform equipment maintenance and repair.
- Skill in the use of various hand and power tools.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
- Ability to spell and write legibly.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and on an on-call basis.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and supervisors.
- Ability to obtain tow motor operation certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to learn and follow safety rules and regulations.
- Lift/carry a minimum of eighty-five (85) pounds.
- Reaching with bilateral upper extremities into/up to/down to various heights.
- Bend, stoop, and squat.
- Push/pull with twenty-five (25) pounds of initial force.
- Climb ladders/stairs.
- Able to withstand extreme temperatures and vibration exposure with equipment tool use.
- Operate heavy equipment.
