Job Description: The Stark County Community Action Agency in Canton, OH, has multiple full-time HEAP Intake / Outreach Specialist openings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for on-site face-to-face assessments obtaining housing, demographic and income information
- Responsible for local travel within Stark County to provide face-to-face assessments obtaining housing, demographic and income information
- Responds to heating and utility emergency situations
- Contacts utility companies on behalf of customers
- HEAP service assessments (determining eligibility and real-time program assistance) are completed by utilizing the Ohio Development Services Agency (ODSA), Office of Community Assistance, Energy Assistance Web Portal and Salesforce database
- Responsible for having all forms signed by customer and scan/upload documents to the ODSA Energy Assistance Web Portal and OCEAN database once assessment is completed
- Responsible for completing PIPP+ assessments and thoroughly explain PIPP+ program to customers utilizing the Utility/PUCO criteria and ODSA Energy Assistance guidelines
- Provide appropriate referrals for additional services within the agency and/or services not available through SCCAA
- Assist with outreach/publicity and promote HEAP services to Stark County organizations, coalitions, etc.
- Be able to deal with diverse population. Must be respectful and able to successfully leverage and embrace the diversity of SCCAA and HEAP customers
- Actively participate in staff meetings, trainings as well as other scheduled department meetings as required
- Must be aware of and actively support SCCAA’s mission
- Other duties as requested by supervisor
Skills and Specifications:
- Must have knowledge and experience with Salesforce database (preferred)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
- Must have high level of interpersonal skills. Position requires demonstrated professionalism, tact and diplomacy
- Understanding of diverse cultures
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
- Must have strong knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets and presentations (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality at all times when interacting with HEAP customers, referral sources and all other contacts
- Exhibit excellent customer relation skills with all contacts including coworkers, customers and referral sources
- Knowledge of basic math functions
- A current, valid driver’s license is required
Education:
- High school diploma or GED and/or an associate degree in Social Work or related field from an accredited college or university; or a technical school certification and/or 5 years of equivalent work experience in social services
- Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in providing data entry and/or customer service in a social services agency or non-profit agency, exhibiting a passion for working with low-income customers
- Must be organized and detailed oriented
- Fluency in Spanish a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Sits, stands, lifts and moves intermittently during work hours
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and often high-stress environment as well as the ability to adapt quickly to workload changes
- Ability to deal with inside and outside customers and vendors in a diplomatic and courteous manner while assuring adherence to SCCAA policies and procedures
Working Conditions:
- Various noises associated with an office setting
- Exposure to toner and other chemicals used in copiers, fax machines and other office equipment
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals such as dish detergent, window cleaner
Details: Full time. First Shift (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). 40 hours/week. Monday through Saturday. $15.00/hour.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and/or an associate degree in Social Work or related field from an accredited college or university; or a technical school certification and/or 5 years of equivalent work experience in social services. Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in providing data entry and/or customer service in a social services agency or non-profit agency. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
Driver’s License Requirement(s): Must have a valid driver’s license.
