MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.  Demonstrated cleaning or custodial experience.  Knowledge of cleaning equipment and procedures.  Knowledge and ability to follow safety practices and procedures.  Ability to operate floor scrubbers, buffers, and strippers.  Ability to lift heavy objects (50 lbs).  Ability to follow oral and written instructions.  Ability to work with minimum supervision.  Valid driver’s license.  Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  Erie County Residence preferred.  One year or more custodial experience preferred. 
 

Pre-employment physical and drug screen required.

Description of the Job:

The Custodian I is responsible for cleaning the Erie County Sheriff’s Office.  The Custodian I will receive direct supervision from the Director of Facilities.

Essential Functions to be performed:

• Perform regular and scheduled cleaning of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, which includes dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing, sweeping, waxing, mopping, garbage removal, and other cleaning as needed.
• Clean various areas including offices, hallways, bathrooms, elevator interiors, meeting/conference rooms and common areas.
• Wash windows, walls, woodwork, door jambs, bathroom entrance doors, bathroom partitions, all floorings and high touch areas.
• Polish brass and other metal surfaces, where applicable.
• Ensure that doors are secured at designated times.

Other Tasks which may be assigned:

• May move or stack furniture in the process of cleaning specific areas.
• Ensure that cleaning supplies are adequately stocked.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

• Alternate frequently between sitting/standing/walking/crawling/climbing throughout an eight (8) hour workday.
• Lift/carry a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
• Reaching with bilateral upper extremities into/up to/down to various heights.
• Push/pull with twenty (20) pounds of initial force.
• Bend/squat/crouch/kneel.
