Performs laboratory tests on blood and body fluids.   Oversees operation of microbiology that includes but not limited to:  QC review, troubleshooting, maintenance, testing assignment, procedure writing, tech/student instruction, and competency development.  Maintains current knowledge of CAP, JCAHO, and CLIA regulations.  Complies with all department/hospital policies and procedures.  Maintains confidentiality of patient care related activities.  Demonstrates competency, professionalism, and knowledge of current laboratory procedures.  Able to perform under stress; assumes responsibility and can make decisions based on proper patient care according to laboratory and hospital policies.  Communicates effectively with the pathologists, administrative director and staff.  Performs administrative duties in the absence of the director or as needed.  

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY

B.S. degree in Medical Technology; must be registered with American Society of Clinical Pathologist or equivalent nationally approved agency. 

EXPERIENCE

Four to six years as registered medical laboratory technologist including one year of internship training in laboratory procedures.  Supervisory experience preferred.
