Job Description: Biery Cheese in Louisville, OH, has a full-time Skilled Material Handler (Third Shift) opening.

 

Third Shift: 10:55 p.m. - 7:00 a.m., Monday - Friday

Payrate: $21.00/hour; Shift differential $2.00/hour

*Occasional mandatory overtime including weekends

 

Job Overview:

The Skilled Material Handler (SMH) should be able to demonstrate the skills needed to perform every job function in their respective section. This will include the ability to operate all equipment to a proficient operational level. This will include the ability to operate both the Mezz Functions and the Pallet Runner to a proficient operational level. This position may also perform sanitation duties as needed.

Typical positions filled by SMHs are as follows:

  • Slicer
  • Hayssen Operator
  • Material Handler

 

Essential Accountabilities:

  • Have the ability to safely operate all of the equipment/machines on the line in the most efficient manner.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of E21 functions. Have the ability to track quantities per order, input lot numbers and start/stop work orders on time.
  • Have a basic understanding of the vision system and how to change programs when needed.
  • Responsible for completing all tracking sheets throughout shift accurately and in detail. (Downtime, Metal Detector, Line Checks, Redzone).
  • Have the ability to track orders as you go and ensure you have enough cheese to complete orders without running out.
  • Responsible that product is ran to specification ensuring the highest quality and help perform root cause analysis on all quality defects.
  • Have an understanding of the equipment in the back of the line. Be able to use it on a daily basis and make adjustments when needed. (Robots, matrix, taper, labeler, scale).
  • Operate forklift/high lift.
  • Checks work orders and stages material according to demand for production lines.
  • Ability to record tracking information from bulk cheese containers/LPs to table placards.
  • Ability to operate Swiss and 640 lifts to load respective machines.
  • Ability to set up and operate Single Stages.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform the function of process/trim position.
  • Checks correct recording on computer screens, in reports and documents, verifies accuracy of calculations.
  • Assist in supporting a safe and healthful work environment for all personnel through consistent support of the company’s safety process.
  • Participate/support the SQF program and assist in the development of the system and operational standards and corrective actions.
  • Understanding of all plant GMPs.
  • Perform routine quality checks.
  • Hold yourself and team members accountable.
  • Makes verbal reports to Section Leader and provides spoken information about a problem or issue.
  • Participate in 5Y methodology.
  • Ability to record tracking information from bulk cheese containers/LPs to table placards.
  • Fill in for other personnel per production needs.
  • Also required to perform all PT1 and PT2 duties as needed.
  • Additional duties and/or projects may be assigned.
  • Available to work overtime as needed.

Work Environment:

Work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts which may require special safety precautions working around moving machines in production facilities. Protective clothing or gear such as goggles, gloves and shoes may be required. Must be able to work in a cold environment.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Ability to use hands/arms to reach, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Ability to work in multiple areas of the plant and may be exposed to wet and humid conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have excellent vision, distant and peripheral, with the ability to identify and distinguish colors, and adjust focus.
  • Will work near moving mechanical parts, high and/or confining places.

Details: Full time. Third Shift (10:55 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. - Monday through Friday). 40+ hours/week. Occasional mandatory overtime including weekends. Sunday through Saturday, Rotating. $21.00/hour plus $2.00/hour shift differential. Attendance and production bonuses available (not guaranteed).

 

Qualifications: High school diploma / GED. Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs.
