C++ & Qt Platform Developer - 6m Contract+ possible extension

Location Preference (in order):

1 Onsite in Austin for the first 3 months (5 days/week during training)
2 Hybrid - 1 week onsite in Austin per month
3 100% Remote - considered for strong candidates

Overview

We are seeking a skilled C++ & Qt Platform Developer to support ongoing enhancements, feature development, and modernization efforts within an established platform. This role involves working with a large and complex C++ codebase, contributing to both application-level and low-level engineering tasks.

Ideal candidates are strong problem solvers who are comfortable navigating legacy code, diagnosing issues, and implementing efficient solutions. This position offers the opportunity to work across embedded components, GUI elements, and platform-level functionality.

Responsibilities

* Develop and maintain features using C++ (C++14) and Qt
* Work within a large, mature codebase across Linux and Windows
* Perform root cause analysis and resolve system-level bugs
* Support embedded, firmware, or hardware-adjacent development tasks
* Contribute to GUI updates and workflow improvements
* Collaborate within an Agile development environment
Required Skills

* Strong experience with C++ programming
* Proficiency with Qt, including signals/slots and GUI fundamentals
* Familiarity with C
* Experience in Linux development environments
* Background in firmware, embedded systems, or hardware-interfacing software
* Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and debug complex issues
Preferred Experience

* Experience with controls, consoles, sensors, or similar systems
* Exposure to large legacy codebases
* Backgrounds from aerospace, industrial, or entertainment technology environments are a plus
* Experience with automated UI testing tools (e.g., Squish)
