About the Job

A Residential Specialist is responsible for the overall daily functioning of the facility and assist the consumers served with the tasks of daily living. Performs tasks assigned by the shift leader and assistant shift leader. Have an understanding of the physical, mental, behavioral, and emotional impacts of trauma on the girls. Demonstrate a strong commitment to providing trauma informed services within the milieu setting and are responsible for the overall implementation of policies, procedures, and the daily activity schedule while providing quality, effective, and efficient therapeutic interventions to the girls in the program.

Must haves
  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED
  • Hold a Valid driver's license
  • Show proof of current auto insurance
  • Pass a drug screening
  • Be able to pass a personal background check (both BCI/FBI)

Duties and Responsibilities
*Available shifts are based on residential census. Pool staff members are not guaranteed hours but when available work hours exist, pool staff are to work (4) weekend shifts per month ( a shift being an 8 hour shift.) These requirements are necessary in order for employee's status to remain active unless otherwise notified. Pool staff employees are also required to work a minimum of at least 3 holidays per year.
1. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of assigned unit during scheduled shift.
2.Knowledge of licensing regulations as applied to the functioning of the unit and is able to apply that knowledge to successfully pass audits and other licensing inspections.
3. Knowledge of all Agency/Unit guidelines, rules, and regulations and follows them appropriately. Ensures that the unit/milieu guidelines and rules are adhered to at all times.
4. Supervises the portion control of client catered lunch/supper meals in conjunction with assisting clients with the daily breakfast meals.
5. Works with persons served, staff, agencies, or families on his\her shift to address any issues that may arise. Knows when to obtain assistance from a supervisor.
6. Provides professional role modeling by  reporting to work on time with regular attendance and conducts self appropriately with staff, persons served, families, agencies, employees and other professionals.
7. Attends all required Staff Meetings, Unit Trainings and other required Unit Meetings unless excused by the Manager in advance.
8.In emergency, vacation or unanticipated situations, may be expected to perform as Team Leader for his/her shift. Additionally, while the RS will be assigned a 'home base" unit, they may be required at any time to work at another unit due to staff shortages, illness, vacations, or other situations requiring additional staffing at another site.
9. Maintains confidentiality at all times.
10. Completes Unusual Incident reports correctly and completely. Notification of incident is given to designated persons in a timely manner with the correct paperwork completed.
11.Transports clients served as assigned for medical and court appointments, off-ground activities, home visits, etc. made by the unit supervisor/assistant supervisor or Program Manager or any Directors.
12. Perform various related duties and follow any additional instructions requested by my supervisor.
13. Understands the physical, mental, behavioral, and emotional impacts of trauma and how they may be manifested in the daily behaviors of the clients.
14.Assures the safety of clients and the security of the program by providing supervision to the clients in the facility.
15. Implements the daily schedule as written, ensuring that clients attend all scheduled activities, and encouraging their active participation in all activities while role modeling appropriate behavior.
16. Engage in educational and life skills groups as required.
17. Completes all daily unit documentation including but not limited to shift progress notes, shift report, telephone log, point sheets.
18.  Ensures the rights of the clients are followed and provides feedback to supervisor on any and all issues or incidents that might affect client rights.
19. Uses de-escalation techniques to reduce client crisis and promote improved problem-solving/coping skills.
20. Ensures quality care by updating other staff regarding client progress and individual treatment needs.
21. Must have the ability to remain calm and level-headed in crisis situations as well as effectively set limits with oppositional clients. Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to drop repeatedly to knees, support another adult's weight, twist and turn, and engage in physical exertion.
22. Performs other similar or related duties as required or assigned within this job class.
