Position Summary

The Supervisor, Social Services provides direct supervision and leadership to assigned social services staff within the Children Services Division, including caseworkers and support staff. The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with state and federal mandates, maintaining child safety and family well-being, and supporting staff development. The supervisor also collaborates with internal leadership, the courts, community partners, and other stakeholders to achieve permanency, safety, and family stability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise, direct, and evaluate assigned social services workers, including performance management, orientation, training, and professional development.
  • Assign and monitor caseloads; ensure compliance with agency policies, ODJFS rules, and timelines.
  • Provide case consultation, crisis intervention, and decision-making support for complex or high-risk cases.
  • Conduct case reviews, staffings, and case conferences to monitor progress and quality of services.
  • Participate in screening and intake decisions, and ensure documentation is accurate, timely, and in compliance with SACWIS or successor systems.
  • Testify in court proceedings and work with legal staff to prepare case materials, summaries, and recommendations.
  • Develop and implement unit policies and procedures aligned with agency and state standards.
  • Collaborate with community partners including courts, schools, law enforcement, health providers, and other social service agencies.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours supervision for emergency cases.
  • Prepare and submit reports, statistics, and quality assurance data as required.
  • Attend trainings, supervisory meetings, and professional development activities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Three (3) years of experience in child welfare or social services casework, with demonstrated knowledge of family systems, permanency planning, and protective services.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License and insurable under County policy.
  • LSW, LISW, or related licensure preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of ODJFS rules, CAPMIS tools, child protection laws, and social services best practices.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Effective communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including children, families, staff, courts, and community partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SACWIS (or successor systems), and agency technology.

Working Conditions

  • Work performed primarily in an office setting with frequent field work, including home visits and court appearances.
  • Exposure to emotionally charged situations, unsafe environments, and potentially volatile clients.
  • Required to travel locally and occasionally outside the county for trainings or meetings.
  • Participation in on-call and emergency response rotation.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use hands for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly (files, equipment, or children’s items).
  • Must maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
