Job Description and Worker Characteristics, Job duties in order of Importance:
Follows rules and regulations. Checks for efficient operation during tour of duty. Knowledge of Constitutional requirements concerning laws of search and seizure. Knowledge of proper techniques for searching persons being booked into facility. Knowledge of all Pike County Policies and Procedures. Knowledge of Ohio Jail Standards that pertain to detention facilities. Reports all irregularities to a Supervising Deputy.
Must determine if Detention is legal; conducts thorough search of detained person to assure safety of facility, other inmates, and corrections officers. Retains personal property of detainee, issuing receipt for items seized; seize all items of value, money, and issue a receipt; places all valuables into a sealed envelope that is deposited in Clerk's office for later deposit; conducts clothing change out from civilian clothing to jail clothing and back to civilian clothing upon discharge from detention.
Delivers prisoner(s) to appropriate court based on court rosters in appropriate attire. Assists bailiff or probation officers with appearances before the court to assure orderly judicial review of the prisoner(s) case. Reviews jail roster and prisoner(s) to assure prisoner(s) being transported to foreign jail are same person's name in roster. Conducts security check of transportation vehicles for contraband. Drives transportation vehicle in a safe manner to foreign jail or court facilities.
Conducts surveillance of inmates in cells on regular basis (30-45 minutes) and logs same. Reviews court reports to determine which persons are being scheduled into court. Contacts foreign jails via fax, to notify that facility which person(s) will be picked up on the following day. Making lists of which prisoners are scheduled for which court on the following day. Provide inmates with an appropriate meal. Contact proper medical personnel in instances where prisoners indicate they have a medical issue. Conducts book out procedures upon legal release of prisoner. When no inmates are present, clean and sanitize facility.
The essential functions of this position are the physical ability to detain and control prisoners, manual dexterity to operate office equipment to include motor vehicle, computer, camera, radio and other electronics and equipment as required by this position. The ability to drive a motor vehicle safely and for extended periods of time. The ability to make rapid and rational decisions. The ability to communicate effectively in both speech and writing. The ability to carry out detailed but basic instructions. The ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare meaningful, concise, and accurate reports. The ability to work cohesively with other employees.
Requirements:
*Ohio Peace Officer Corrections Training Certificate within one year of employment
*At least 18 years of age
*High School diploma or GED
