Qualified Mental Health Specialist (QMHS)

Job Overview:

Heaven Sent Homes is currently seeking a Qualified Mental Health Specialist (QMHS) to work in residential programs to assure the care, supervision and control of youth in the program by working in variable time shifts in order to provide 24 hour coverage. The Qualified Mental Health Specialist (QMHS) assures that youth are adequately fed, clothed, disciplined, emotionally nurtured and physically protected from harm. The Qualified Mental Health Specialist (QMHS) assures that the environment is safe and clean at all times. The Qualified Mental Health Specialist (QMHS) assists in implementing the individual service plans for each youth.

The Qualified Mental Health Specialist (QMHS) will report to and be accountable to the Program Director and/or Youth Worker Supervisor and House Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of Youth
  • Responsible for being aware of activities of all youth at all times. Checks should be conducted every hour on every youth regardless of their location or activity in the house.
  • Monitor youth interactions, model appropriate interactions, and facilitate problem solving with youth.
  • Supervision of Activities
  • Responsible for supervising meal time preparation with the supervisor and cleaning up with youth.
  • Responsible for supervising bedtimes and wake up time by following program schedule and policy.
  • Responsible for supervising and participating in completion of any chores and work details.
  • Responsible for supervising recreational activities of youth.
  • Responsible for supervising and distribution of medications to youth.
  • Responsible for providing crisis intervention to youth and families as needed.
  • Responsible for transporting clients to and from appointments and recreational outings or school.

Facility Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Department of Health standards at all times by maintaining cleanliness and up-keep of the house.
  • Maintain security of the house. Check and secure all doors and windows at assigned times.
  • Maintain Safety standards at all times.
  • Responsible for house laundry as scheduled in each program.
  • Responsible for reporting any needed repairs to the Program Director.
  • Responsible for cleaning any designated areas such as staff offices, staff bathrooms, etc.

Program and Staff Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for logging all activities of the shift including each youth’s activities, events and housekeeping issues.
  • Responsible for maintaining house coverage and order at all times.
  • Responsible for following the program schedule of activities at the time assigned.
  • Responsible for conducting house meetings with youth when necessary.
  • Responsible for attending and participating in staff meetings and attending training as assigned by the Program Director.
  • Responsible for participating in the on-call schedule.
  • Responsible for covering additional shifts in an emergency or in the absence of other staff.
  • Responsible for working with any assigned volunteers.
  • Responsible for supervising youth in being economical in the consumption of supplies and equipment.
  • Follow all written program policies and procedures.
  • Perform any tasks assigned by the Program Director.
  • Maintain open communication and cooperation with all team members.

Standards of Performance:

The Youth Worker’s performance will be rated satisfactory when:

  • Youth are supervised and Youth Worker interacts with them frequently during the shift.
  • Schedule of program activities is adhered to in a positive and timely way.
  • Facility is clean, safe, and secure at all times during the shift.
  • All program policies and procedures have been adhered to.
  • All loggings have been completely written by the end of the shift – including reporting of any incidents.
  • Team supervision is utilized effectively.

The Youth Worker does not make direct contact with referral agencies, schools, vocational services or any community resources unless requested to do so by the Program Director.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age and up.
  • High School diploma and 6 months experience working with children or youth, or experience in a closely related field.

Additional Duties:

Day Shift: (6am-2pm)

  • Wake the child up for school and ensure they are at the bus stop on time.
  • Day shower as scheduled (make sure they brush their teeth).
  • Ensure the child made their bed.
  • Breakfast (per the menu).
  • Lunch (per the menu for children not in school or on the weekends).
  • Wash dishes from your shift and ensure the house is clean for the next shift.
  • Sweep floors including the basement. Tidy the bathroom as needed.

Afternoon Shift: (2pm-10pm)

  • After school snacks.
  • Chores must be signed off daily for children.
  • Sweep floors and tidy the bathroom as needed.
  • Serve and/or prepare dinner.
  • Evening snacks.
  • Night showered as scheduled (make sure they brush their teeth).
  • Send kids to bed per scheduled time on school nights.
  • Wash dishes from your shift and ensure the house is clean for the next shift.

Afternoon Shift: (10pm-6am)

  • Send children to bed if they are not already in bed.
  • Do the laundry and fold clothes. Children should bring dirty clothes hamper downstairs to be washed and folded.
  • Staff should bring clothes back upstairs folded in the same hamper for children to put away their clothes as part of their chores.
  • Sweep floors. Tidy bathroom including sinks and toilet. (Gloves and cleaning supplies available).
  • Wash dishes from your shift and ensure the house is clean for the next shift.
  • Occasionally prepare simple meals.

Onboarding:

This position includes a 90-day initial onboarding and success period where you’ll receive enhanced support, guided training, regular check-ins, and clear expectations to set you up for long-term success.
