POSITION SUMMARY

The Home Care Aide provides in-home support services under the supervision of professional staff. This role assists clients and families in maintaining independence and safety at home. All services are delivered in accordance with an established written plan of care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to:

Personal Care
• Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment
• Provide bathing assistance (bed, sponge, tub, shower)
• Shampooing (sink, tub, or shower)
• Skin and nail care
• Oral hygiene
• Assistance with toileting and elimination

Safety & Supportive Care
• Apply proper body mechanics during ambulation, transferring, positioning, and household tasks
• Prepare and provide adequate nutrition and fluid intake
• Perform homemaking tasks to maintain sanitary, safe conditions in the home
• Observe, document, and report changes in client status
• Communicate effectively with supervising staff to ensure quality care

Additional Responsibilities
• Follow established policies, procedures, and care plans
• Understand basic body functions and report changes appropriately
• Recognize emergency situations and activate appropriate procedures
• Use infection control procedures and universal precautions
• Accurately document care and submit records according to schedule
• Attend required in-service training and client care meetings
• Contribute to team goals and overall service quality

Note: Duties vary by client. Home Care Aides must follow each client’s individualized care plan and adjust to varying needs and comfort levels.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma, GED, or one year of home care experience
• Successful completion of a written competency exam and skills demonstration for home care aide duties
• Ability to interpret oral and written instructions
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to older adults
• Ability to assess information related to client needs
• Completion of written competency exam and skills demonstration
• Compliance with health and safety standards (e.g., OSHA, TB testing)
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to pass a background check

• Ability to receive oral and written instructions
• Ability to record observations clearly and communicate essential information to supervisors and emergency personnel

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
• Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out written and verbal instructions
• Ability to address routine problems with limited variables

• Daily home visits
• Occasional meetings and training sessions
• Reliable transportation required

• Must adapt to changing client needs, schedules, and staffing arrangements
• May involve varied routines and occasional overtime based on client conditions

Safety:
• Potential exposure to infections
• Risk of muscle strain during mobility assistance
• Possible exposure to unsafe environments during home visits
