D&D Ingredients LLC, a premier contract manufacturer and ingredient supplier to the animal feed and pet food industries, is seeking a highly organized and proactive Logistics Coordinator to join our growing team. This role is essential to ensuring efficient outbound freight operations, exceptional customer service, and competitive freight cost management across our business.
Position Summary: Full-Time | On-Site
The Logistics Coordinator will oversee daily coordination of inbound and outbound third-party freight, LTL shipments, enhance our bag route services and work side by side with our D&D trucking fleet. This role supports customer and production needs through close communication with Dispatch, Customer Service, Ingredient Purchasing, Production, Trucking and freight services and freight partners. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator with a solid understanding of transportation principles and the ability to work with urgency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate inbound and outbound freight, including:
- LTL shipments
- Inbound and outbound 3rd-party freight
- Collaboration with D&D Fleet Coordinators
- Route-truck delivery services
- Inbound raw-ingredient deliveries and supplier pickups
- Coordinate inbound ingredient scheduling with Purchasing and Production to ensure timely arrival of materials needed for production runs.
- Monitor inbound delivery appointments, verifying supplier shipping confirmations, carrier ETAs, and adherence to receiving windows.
- Communicate proactively with suppliers, carriers, and internal receiving teams to prevent delays, resolve exceptions, and maintain accurate inbound flow.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and cost-effective delivery of customer orders in alignment with production schedules and customer deadlines.
- Manage all LTL shipment needs, including rate negotiation, carrier selection, labeling/paperwork accuracy, and scheduling pickups.
- Communicate daily with drivers, freight partners, LTL carriers, and internal teams to confirm loads, resolve issues, and maintain dependable service.
- Perform freight tendering, rate comparisons, and carrier evaluations to support competitive landed cost decisions.
- Work with our D&D Trucking & service team by aligning routing efficiency and identifying backhaul opportunities.
- Identify inbound backhaul opportunities that reduce empty miles and lower freight cost.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with key LTL and freight partners to drive consistent service and cost performance.
- Prepare, analyze, and maintain freight spreadsheets, logs, and reports using Excel to track freight costs, routing efficiency, inbound/outbound KPIs, and logistics performance.
- Collaborate with Ingredient Purchasing and Customer Service to align inbound raw material flow and outbound finished goods flow with inventory and production planning.
- Document freight exceptions, delays, and quality-of-service issues, recommending improvements where needed.
- Record inbound supplier delivery issues, missed appointments, quality concerns, or documentation errors.
- Stay informed on transportation regulations, industry best practices, and market rate trends affecting freight operations.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and hands-on logistics experience will be considered.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for coordinating across departments and with external partners.
- Solid understanding of transportation and logistics fundamentals, including inbound/outbound coordination, LTL operations, rate structures, routing, and carrier management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including use of formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis for freight management.
- Experience managing freight cost in a competitive environment and making cost-effective shipping decisions.
- Strong organizational abilities with high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple shipments concurrently.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adjust to shifting customer demands and production changes.
- A customer-first mindset with strong problem-solving and service-recovery skills.
- Prior experience in logistics, freight coordination, trucking, LTL scheduling, and negotiating contracted services with logistics companies.
- Knowledge of DOT requirements and agricultural/feed industry logistics a plus.
