TRANSPORTATION - BUS DRIVER

SALARY & WORK DAYS:  Per Contract

REPORTS TO:  Transportation Coordinator

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:      

* High School diploma or equivalent.

* Valid Ohio Commercial Driver’s License with school bus endorsement.

* Required to successfully pass a physical examination by a licensed physician in accordance with the law.

* Good driving record for three (3) years (no major convictions)

* Ability to work with students.

* Positive past work experience.

* Must demonstrate the ability to read and follow written directions.

* Shall be in good physical and mental health and be free of any major defects in sight, hearing, or mobility of  person.

* Must have a favorable criminal record check.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

* The ability to maintain a regular service routine; shows dependability

* Dress appropriately for the job assignment

* Display interest, enthusiasm and positive toward work; creates a positive work environment

* Directs job related comments and/or concerns through proper channels; communicates effectively with administration, supervisor, co-workers, parents and children. 

* Is physically able to perform his or her duties; demonstrates a maturity and calmness in dealing with children; uses sound judgment.  Lifting required.

* Works cooperatively and productively with fellow employees, supervisor and administration; works well with parents and volunteers; relates well with children.

* Possesses the ability to operate equipment relating to the job.

* Shows respect for others; is supportive of the Danville Local Schools; follows the policies adopted by the Danville Local Schools Board of Education.

* Continually monitors work responsibilities for safety; reports safety infractions or unsafe conditions to the   immediate supervisor on a timely basis.

* Is open minded and willing to accept directions and suggestions.

* Completes all work-related assignments in a satisfactory manner.

* Attends work regularly; is prompt in reporting to work and completing assignments.

* Operates school buses in a safe and professional manner.

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

To transport students to and from school safely, efficiently and economically.  Also, bus drivers should be good examples to the community in driving and politeness.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  Essential Functions may include, but are not limited to the following

* Transport students to and from school on routes and time schedules assigned by the transportation coordinator.

* Obey all traffic laws and also be knowledgeable of road conditions to maintain safety.

* Maintain discipline on the bus and report any problems to coordinator and building principal

* Perform daily maintenance checks on the bus including gas, oil, water, tires, safety equipment and general  cleanup, mandatory pre-trip inspections requiring proper engine warm-up time and adequate cooling down time of the engine is required when the route is completed.

* Report any mechanical difficulties to the transportation coordinator immediately.

* Fill out all reports i.e., student registration, gas and mileage as assigned by the transportation coordinator.

* Make every effort to be on time to work and on routes.

* Keep the route sheet updated during the year, checking with the transportation coordinator about new students or loss of other students.

* Maintain a high level of personal knowledge concerning laws, first aid and emergency procedures.

* Fill out daily pre-trip maintenance report

* Report any problems to the transportation coordinator in writing immediately.

* Clean inside of the bus including windows, dash and floor.

* Spare bus must not be parked with less than ½ tank of fluid, must be cleaned out after each use and parked in the assigned spot.

* Drivers must secure their own sub and notify the coordinator  in writing before the sub drives in case of emergency, notify the coordinator by phone and then in writing, including the reason for missing the name of the sub.

* Drivers must completely fill out the pay sheet and turn in to the coordinator at the end of the pay period, if a reason for missing is not marked, it will be considered a dock.

* A complete maintenance report checklist must be submitted to the transportation coordinator at year's end.

* Interior of the bus must be thoroughly cleaned within one week after school is out, if  not cleaned, the last paycheck will be held until completed.

* Sub Drivers must pre-trip bus according to law, sweep bus after every trip and fuel bus before leaving for the trip.

* Perform other duties as assigned by the transportation coordinator

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

* Work near moving mechanical parts.

* Frequent operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions.

* Frequent work around children, potential interaction with unruly children.

* Frequent exposure to: fumes or airborne particles; dangerous, toxic, or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; loud noises; blood, bodily fluids and/or tissue.

* Occasional requirement to travel.

* Occasional Weekend/Evening/Early morning work.

* Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, stretch with arms and hands, crouch, climb, kneel, stoop, & etc.

* Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push and pull various items up to a maximum of 100 pounds.
