Base Pay Range: $35.52– $37.00/hour (Negotiable based on experience)

The primary purpose of this position is to assist in preparing legal documents and attend court proceedings involving Pickaway County Job & Family Services matters, including both Child Support and Social Services (Child Welfare and Adult Protective) cases.
Job Description
Essential Functions of the Position
Prepares various legal documents (e.g., legal briefs, orders, pleadings, and memorandums; initial child support modifications; interstates and paternity cases; abuse, neglect, and dependency complaints) for filing in court.
Prepares for and attends pre-trial and other court proceedings involving Pickaway County Job and Family Services matters, including both Child Support and Social Services (Child Welfare and Adult Protective) cases.
Responds to client and other phone inquiries (from court staff attorneys, client family members, health professionals, etc.,) for both Child Support and Social Services (Child Welfare and Adult Protective); responds to incoming mail as needed.
Provides legal advice, consultation and research to Child Support and Social Services (Child Welfare and Adult Protective) agency staff on a variety of legal matters/issues.
Maintains required licensures and/or certificates.
Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
Demonstrates regular, punctual, and predictable attendance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares criminal non-support reports; maintains records and files documents; meets with other county officials to plan and improve interactions between agencies; performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Characteristics:
Knowledge of interviewing; Microsoft Word; SETS; Microsoft Outlook; Google Chrome; Microsoft Edge; SharePoint; E2 DOCS; SACWIS and Traverse; database management; government structure and process; Children Services and Child Support laws and/or regulations; agency goals and objections; *agency policies and procedures; *federal, state, and local laws; rules of evidence; courtroom procedures; office practices and procedures; English grammar and spelling; case management; social services policies, programs, rules, and regulations.
Skill in: typing, word processing; computer operation; drafting; use of modern office equipment; motor vehicle operation.
Ability to: interpret extensive variety of technical material in books, journals, and manuals; deal with problems involving several variables within familiar context; deal with many variables and determine specific action; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; understand most difficult classes of concepts; exercise independent judgment and discretion; understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, or regulations to specific situations; complete routine forms; prepare routine correspondence; prepare accurate documentation; compile and prepare reports; use proper research methods to gather data; develop complex reports and position papers; respond to routine inquiries from public and/or officials; prepare and deliver speeches and presentations; conduct effective interviews; communicate effectively; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; handle sensitive inquiries from and contacts with officials and general public; develop and maintain effective working relationships; resolve complaints.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Admission to the Ohio Bar per Section 4705.01 of the Ohio Revised Code.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
License to practice law issued by the Ohio Supreme Court; valid Ohio driver’s license.
INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS:
Has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; has contact with clients with contagious diseases; may be required to lift up to 25 lbs.; ascends and/or descends stairs.
