The Engineering Technician is a professional position under the direction of the Subdivision Engineer in the Stark County Regional Planning Commission Department. This employee assists in reviewing and monitoring residential and commercial subdivision developments and performs construction inspections to ensure adherence to the requirements of the Stark County Subdivision Regulations. This is an exempt professional position under the provisions of the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act.
Characteristic Work
The Engineering Technician shall assist the Subdivision Engineer in overseeing the planning and construction of streets, storm sewers, and other public improvements in new allotments and commercial sites located in the unincorporated areas of Stark County.
Duties include: Assist in the review, tracking, and archiving of subdivision allotment plans, site plans and surveys; prepare quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimates; perform construction inspection and prepare daily field reports; document and report non-conforming materials or workmanship; assist in mapping storm sewer systems and inspecting stormwater outfalls; respond to requests and inquiries from the public, other departments and agencies; perform other related duties as necessary or as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
Written and oral communication skills. Requires the ability to write reports, emails, and spreadsheets. Familiarity with surveying, construction standards or inspection procedures. Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications and construction drawings. Must be able to interact with designers, contractors, the public and coworkers in a professional and courteous manner and maintain effective working relationships; must be able to traverse uneven terrain and to work outside in inclement weather (hot, cold, rain); possession of a valid driver's license and good driving record are required.
Qualifications
Associate's degree or higher in Civil Engineering or Construction Technology from an accredited college and a minimum of two (2) years' experience in a civil design or heavy construction field; or five (5) years of responsible experience in a closely related field.
