HX5 is currently seeking a senior level systems engineer to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will support the Space Communications and Spectrum Management Office at NASA GRC for the following projects: Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), Ka-Steerable Terminal for Lunar Environments (KaSTLE), and Lunar Surface Propagation (LSP). There is a specific emphasis on satellite communication network operations and focus on optical and radio frequency space ground systems.
The chosen candidate should be knowledgeable about NASA’s lunar mission plans and associated operational objectives. In addition, comprehensive knowledge of satellite communication architectures, performance, operations, maintenance, and sustainment are essential. The selected candidate will be managing and guiding efforts across the whole portfolio of space communication and navigation (SCaN) projects. The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Plan and support the LSP technology readiness assessment
- Plan and support the LSP model requirements review
- Plan and support LSP model development and analysis of simulation tools
- Plan and support the 3GPP Key Decision Point (KDP) D review
- Plan and support the 3GPP design certification review
- Plan and support the KaSTLE mission concept review
- Plan and support the KaSTLE preliminary design review
This effort is monitored by the Human Space Flight Systems Branch at NASA GRC, which is responsible for systems engineering leadership and shared project system architect leadership roles to enable the successful implementation of NASA human spaceflight or human spaceflight-enabling programs and projects.
Required Skills:
- Experience and knowledge of satellite communication architecture, performance, operation, maintenance, and sustainment
- Experience in developing concept of operations, requirements, and similar systems engineering documentation
- Experience working on NASA projects
- Experience with systems engineering processes and life cycle reviews
- Experience or knowledge with model-based systems engineering (MBSE)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly motivated and able to work independently
- Committed to successful collaboration with the NASA team and partners
Desired Skills:
- Experience working with NASA
- Experience or knowledge of NASA Systems Engineering processes
Education/Experience:
Completed at least a bachelor of science degree in a STEM-related major, from an accredited program, with the following education and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree with more than 10 years of experience
- Master’s degree with 6 to15 years of experience
- Ph.D. with 0 to 3 years of experience
Other Position Requirements:
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
- Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
