Logan County Engineer’s Office
Starting Pay: $18.00 – $25.00 per hour
The Opportunity
This is a full-time entry-level position designed for individuals who like working outdoors, enjoy a work-life balance and are ready to work hard and learn. As a Technician Trainee, you will assist our experienced road, bridge and ditch crews in maintenance and repair projects on the infrastructure of Logan County. You will also have the opportunity to grow and advance in your career.
What You Will Do:
- Assist with paving, patching, and sealing roads; install culverts, drainage structures and guardrails.
- Mow grass, trim trees and brush and maintain rights-of-way.
- Direct traffic (flagging), perform pre-trip equipment inspections, and serve as essential "on-call" personnel during snow, ice, or emergency weather events.
- Prepare and submit legible, accurate and timely work-related records.
- Learn to operate dump trucks with snowplows, skid steers, backhoes, chippers, and various power tools.
- Performs basic labor and other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Must be 18+
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Class A or B CDL within 6 months of hire. (We help you get there!).
- Must live within a 36-minute commute of our Bellefontaine office and be available to work irregular hours (nights/weekends/holidays) during weather emergencies.
- Must be able to lift 50–100 lbs. and work on uneven terrain.
- Must pass a background check, drug screen, and license verification.
- Must be fluent in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
- This is a physically active, outdoor role. You will be exposed to variable weather (extreme heat/cold), loud noise, fumes, and vibrations.
- Requires frequent lifting, carrying, bending, crouching, and standing for long periods.
- Full neck mobility and manual dexterity are required for safe heavy equipment operation.
- You will work near moving traffic and heavy machinery; normal vision (including color/depth perception) and adequate hearing are essential for safety.
