Summary

 

The Coordinator of Pre-Professional Programs advances student success by improving the preparation and outcomes of students pursuing professional school admission. This role provides direct student advising and develops programming that strengthens readiness, belonging, and competitiveness across all pre-professional tracks. The Coordinator also collaborates with partners in Admissions and Advancement to engage prospective students and alumni and works with campus and community stakeholders to align advising and support systems.

 

Essential Functions

 

Student Advising

 

Guide students across all pre-professional tracks to develop competitive applications for professional schools by providing advising, resources, and support that strengthen academic readiness, expand experiential learning, and build confidence throughout the admissions process.

 

Program Development and Engagement

Design and lead initiatives that enhance student preparation for professional programs, such as workshops on application strategy, entrance exams, and interviews. Evaluate impact and adapt offerings based on outcomes and student feedback.

 

Data-Informed Outreach

Use success metrics and outreach campaigns to identify and support students at key points in their academic journey. Partner with divisional systems to increase persistence, re-enrollment, and career readiness among pre-professional students.

 

Experiential Learning Partnerships

Connect students to research, internships, and service experiences that strengthen professional competencies and enhance competitiveness. Collaborate with campus offices and external partners to expand access to meaningful opportunities.

 

Recruitment and Alumni Engagement

Partner with Admissions and University Advancement to engage prospective students and alumni, building community and visibility for BGSU's pre-professional pathways.

 

Assessment and Reporting

Track and analyze key indicators of student progress and acceptance rates. Provide regular reports and insights to inform strategic improvements in advising, programming, and outcomes.

 

Supervision and Collaboration

Supervise graduate and undergraduate student staff. Support the Director of Student Success Strategies and Initiatives in aligning efforts across campus partners and the Pre-Professional Programs advisory board to achieve shared goals.

Minimum Qualifications

 

The following Degree is required:

 

• Master's degree

 

The following Degree is preferred:

 

• Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field

 

The following Experience is required:

 

• 1 year of experience at an institution of higher education (college/university) OR within an academic college or department

 

The following Experience is preferred:

 

• 1 year of experience directly advising students on academic requirements or post-undergraduate career outcomes

• 1 year of experience with hosting programs or facilitating workshops for students

 

Additional Information

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

• Knowledge of college student development and related theories

• Knowledge of how to support students on pre-professional tracks and experiences needed for admittance into professional school

• Experience in developing and facilitating student workshops and programs

• Excellent interpersonal and written communication and administrative skills, and a demonstrated desire to work with diverse individuals and groups.

• Ability to work on several projects concurrently

• Basic computer skills

• Creative problem-solving skills
