Job Description

Social Services Agency is seeking highly motivated individual to become child protective services professionals.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Interviews individuals (by phone or in-person) who make reports of elder abuse or child abuse, neglect, or dependency to the Agency. Answers general questions as to what constitutes abuse, neglect, and/or dependency. Refers reporters to appropriate community resources. Checks the Statewide Automated Child Welfare Systems

(SACWIS) or hard case files to determine whether the individual(s) on whom the report was received have had any previous agency involvement. Accurately enters referrals into SACWIS for timely screening decisions.

  • Assists staff with gathering background information such as SACWIS checks, criminal history searches, and other resources available to the agency. Assist in coordinating the provision of agency services, redacts files for review, performs agency records checks, obtains police, medical, school, or other reports pertinent to the report.
  • Completes pre-decision making activities on Intake Reports such as determining the classification, the level of urgency, possible jurisdictional issues, medical alerts, or 3rd party conflict.
  • Completes follow-up activities on already completed Intake Reports.
  • Completes documentation in the SACWIS and Traverse systems as defined by ODJFS rules and regulations.
  • Coordinates transportation for children and families to doctors, schools, therapy appointments or other community agencies for services, as needed.
  • Obtains and/or assists with obtaining necessary verifications and documentation.

Counsels and mobilizes resources, makes referrals.

  • Presents self to agency personnel, clients, and the public in a professional and competent manner; promotes teamwork, agency mission, values, and goals.
  • Attends meetings and training as requested. Performs other duties as assigned, including caseworker duties when assigned.
  • Maintains confidentiality of case and agency information. Comply with agency personnel policies and procedures. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

Schedule, Qualifications and Skills

  • Monday-Thursday 8:30 AM-4:30 PM with one-hour unpaid lunch (28 hours a week).
  • Associate's degree in human services related area. Salary commensurate with experience and education.
  • All positions are subject to a criminal background, fingerprinting, and motor vehicle report check. Ability to establish rapport, trust, and ethical boundaries with service population.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to properly and accurately document case notes and files.
  • Ability to apply sound judgement when making decisions.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize competing tasks.
  • Strong people and interpersonal skills with the ability to apply compassion and empathy, while dealing with stressful and difficult situations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
