Job Description:
Scott Equity Exchange Co. is seeking an experienced Operations Supervisor to help lead day-to-day operations across our grain elevator and agronomy locations. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands both grain handling and agronomy services and takes pride in supporting farmers, employees, and rural communities.
The Operations Supervisor works closely with operators, applicators, location managers, and the General Manager to ensure safe, efficient, and dependable service across all locations—especially during planting and harvest seasons.
Key Responsibilities:
Grain & Elevator Operations
- Oversee daily grain operations including receiving, drying, storage, blending, and shipping
- Coordinate truck and rail shipments and monitor grain inventory and quality
- Prepare facilities and staff for harvest and peak seasonal demands
Agronomy & Application Operations
- Oversee fertilizer, chemical, and anhydrous ammonia operations
- Coordinate custom application services (spraying, spreading, ammonia delivery)
- Ensure timely product availability and scheduling to meet member needs
Facilities, Equipment & Fleet
- Manage elevators, fertilizer plants, chemical sheds, bins, dryers, and application equipment
- Oversee preventative maintenance, repairs, and capital improvement projects
- Coordinate maintenance and compliance for trucks, trailers, sprayers, spreaders, and ammonia equipment
Leadership & Team Support
- Supervise and support operations and seasonal employees
- Assist with hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management
- Lead by example and work alongside employees during peak seasons
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, DHS, and state agricultural regulations
- Oversee chemical and anhydrous ammonia safety programs
- Conduct inspections and maintain required records and documentation
Budgeting & Cost Control
- Assist with operational budgets and expense monitoring
- Identify efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service quality
Member & Community Relations
- Work directly with members to address operational needs
- Represent Scott Equity Exchange professionally within the local ag community
Job Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Degree in agriculture, agribusiness, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
- 7+ years of experience in grain elevator and/or agronomy operations preferred
- Multi-location supervisory experience strongly preferred
Skills & Traits
- Strong working knowledge of grain handling, agronomy products, and application practices
- Hands-on leadership style with strong organizational and decision-making skills
- Mechanical aptitude and understanding of ag equipment
- Clear communicator who works well with farmers, staff, vendors, and leadership
- Comfortable using operational and inventory software
Work Environment
- Work across multiple elevator and agronomy locations
- Long hours, early mornings, nights, and Saturdays during planting and harvest
- Ability to lift up to 55 lbs, climb ladders, and work around grain dust, chemicals, and heavy equipment
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain
