Danville Local Schools

SALARY & WORK DAYS: Per Contract
REPORTS TO: Supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent. (Technical 2-year degree preferred.)
  • Low-pressure boiler operator’s license
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License (CDL with school bus endorsement preferred)
  • Work experience in custodial and maintenance operation of school, similar institution, or comparable-size business.
  • Experience as a department supervisor.
  • Positive work record.
  • Shall be in good physical and mental health and be free of any major defects in sight, hearing, or
    mobility of person.
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements including a favorable criminal record check.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board may find appropriate.

    Technology/Computer skills, including knowledge and ability to operate computerized HVAC systems, security and life-safety systems, email, database software, other software such as Microsoft Office Suite, web-based reporting, etc.
  • Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot and repair basic network wiring, telephone systems, intercoms, television systems, etc.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability with managing supplies and parts ordering and inventory.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and follow written instructions, manuals, technical bulletins, etc.
  • Physically able to perform his or her duties.
  • Demonstrated dependability.
 
SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Directs and supervises maintenance and custodial department and personnel, assuring safe, efficient,
and effective custodial operations, maintenance, repair, and light construction through the school
district.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential Functions may include, but are not limited to the following..
  • Ensure safety of students, staff and public.
  • Establish a monitoring and maintenance routine of district buildings and grounds to ensure that all buildings and facilities are functional, safe, clean, comfortable and ready for occupancy or use as needed.
  • Design and implement effective program/s of preventative maintenance.
  • Help recruit employees for maintenance and custodial positions as needed.
  • Supervise, monitor, orient, and train maintenance and custodial staff.
  • Ensure staff is aware of and regularly reminded of all safety, legal, and policy rules, laws, directives, etc., and monitor compliance and assist with training programs.
  • Maintain maintenance and cost records in various areas of responsibility.
  • Recommend needed equipment.
  • Secure bids for equipment and supplies
  • Ensure that all equipment is maintained and in good working order.
  • Help prepare maintenance and custodial budgets.
  • Develop a positive rapport and interact in a positive manner with staff, parents, children, and community.
  • Develop a positive rapport and interact in a positive manner with all political entities, vendors, suppliers, colleagues in other schools, & etc.
  • Work before or after the normal workday when needed and for emergencies.
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information such as staff information, personnel records
  • Promote good public relations.
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required.
  • Interview job candidates and recommend for hiring.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assign work to custodial and maintenance staff in consultation with building and district administrators as appropriate.
  • Purchase materials and supplies for maintenance and custodial systems.
  • Dress appropriately for the job assignment.
  • Respond to routine requests and questions in an appropriate manner.
  • Determine which repair jobs must be performed by outside contractors and advise the Superintendent accordingly.
  • Maintain MSDS sheets and other safety information in all buildings.
  • Maintain an inventory of district-owned hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials, and supplies.
  • Serve as a role model for students and staff.
  • Participate in the district quality improvement process.
  • Assist with all buildings and grounds inspections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Hand tools and power tools, jacks, compressors, repair and maintenance equipment as needed for buildings and grounds.
  • Vehicles – pickup truck & etc., snow plows
  • Mowers and tractors
  • Boilers and other mechanical systems.
  • Computers and related technology.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work near moving mechanical parts
  • Work in high places
  • Frequent operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions
  • Frequent work indoors and outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
  • Frequent work around children, potential interaction with unruly children
  • Frequent exposure to: fumes or airborne particles; dangerous, toxic, or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; loud noises; blood, bodily fluids and/or tissue.
  • Occasional requirement to travel.
  • Occasional Weekend/Evening/Early morning work.
  • Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, stretch with arms and hands, crouch, climb, kneel, stoop, & etc.
  • Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push and pull various items up to a maximum of 100 pounds.
