Job Description

CLAIMS SPECIALIST SOCIAL INSURANCE SPECIALIST
POSITION OVERVIEW As a Claims Specialist, you will assist the public in person or by phone to establish entitlement to Social Security benefits. Your contacts will allow you to obtain, clarify and verify data used to analyze claims and make benefit entitlement decisions. Your career as a Claims Specialist will allow you to develop skills that provide a solid foundation for future advancements.
SALARY & ADVANCEMENT
Entry into this position is typically at the GS-5 or GS-7 level with advancement opportunity to the GS-11 level. Future
career development includes, but is not limited to technical expert and management positions.
TECHNICAL TRAINING Claims Specialists must complete a four month training program. This program provides the necessary technical instruction in SSA programs and prepares new employees to interview, furnish information, and provide assistance to the general public and beneficiaries on matters relating to SSA programs and Medicare.

QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen by birth or
Naturalization, have excellent communication skills & ability to deal with the public, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and a degree or related experience.
