Summary of the role

The Senior Product Development Engineer is responsible for leading and managing a wide range of new product development projects across a variety of product lines. The ideal candidate will be a strong team player that can also function independently. The Senior Product Development Engineer will be required to effectively manage project timelines and budgets and keep management appraised of progress, in addition to assisting with custom engineered and legacy product projects as needed. The candidate will be required to travel to customers facilities and other Nordson divisions as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* Manage multiple projects as required to support new product development products, custom engineered, and legacy product projects.
* Adhere to company nVision (stage gate) process for new product development.
* Provide input into the creation/modification of Product Specifications in alignment with Customer Requirements
* Collaborate with cross functional teams (i.e. marketing, purchasing, and manufacturing) to drive projects to launch.
* Identify, develop and implement pre-production assembly methods and equipment
* Develop timelines and cost estimates for development tasks and appraise management of performance against plan
* Perform design calculations or analysis required for design of components or sub-systems. The calculations or analysis might include stress analysis, force/load/deflection on mechanical parts and air flow/pressure calculations for pneumatic components or systems.
* Make design recommendations for materials, manufacturing methods and component selections.
* Build and test design concepts and engineering prototypes for verification.
* Oversee testing and analysis of products to determine product performance.
* Complete Engineering Change Orders, support the Quality team with Corrective Action Requests as needed.
* Act as a liaison between Application and Product Development Teams to ensure that the Applications team has the necessary information to properly configure and implement Nordson's products.
* Become an expert in Nordson's core equipment and lead improvements in the product lines as required.
* Mentor and coach early in career engineering team members.
* Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

Detail-oriented, self-starter with strong communication and organizational skills. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to multi-task and work collaboratively as well as independently in a dynamic environment. Additional qualifications are as follows:

* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related degree required; advanced degree a plus.
* Minimum of 10 years of new product/capital equipment design and project managment experience is required.
* 2-3 years minimum experience in operations related Engineering positions preferred.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

* 3D modeling software experience is required, Solid Works is preferred.
* Ability to apply sound engineering principles and practices in the design, development and verification of possible solutions.
