Job Description

Designing, manufacturing, confirming, and launching dies and equipment used to make high-quality automotive sheet metal body panels and parts of new models.  Coordinating the model launches at the North American manufacturing plant for engineering process set-up, die trials, and milestone activities.  Ensuring engineering process confirmation and providing process sheet and die design reviews.  Monitoring the design process and providing engineering input to the design.  Monitoring die construction and providing mechanical engineering direction for problem resolution of any issues that may occur.  Developing and implementing plans to function check the dies in offline and home line presses.  Confirming and tracking automotive part quality and die performance in detail through the new model launch phases.  Developing and implementing specific countermeasures (die manufacturing requests) to improve part quality by modifications to the dies.  Confirming all technical aspects of die function to ensure robust processes are transferred to the home manufacturing facility.  Ensuring trial readiness confirmations with die manufacturing and plant pilot teams by ensuring the safety, quality, and productivity confirmation of dies and parts.  Performing engineering documentation of activities and enabling the project handover to the manufacturing plant.  Providing post-project engineering analysis after handover with a focus on process improvement to implement in future projects.  Position is subject to possible location to unanticipated worksites throughout the United States.

Requirements:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in automotive engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering, or a similar discipline, and three years of stamping experience.
  • Experience using Catia, AutoCAD, C3, or a similar 3D design tool.
  • Knowledge of mechanics of materials
  • Knowledge of tooling and machining.
  • 50% domestic/international (Canada, Mexico, and Japan) travel.
