JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Crisis Technician
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for crisis counseling and teaching daily living skills and psychosocial skills with program clients. Will assist with admissions, group services, discharge planning and complete discharge summaries for clients when they are leaving the program. Provides coverage for Crisis Hotline Services.
RESPONSIBILITIES/STANDARDS
Provides a supportive and empathic environment for successful resolution of clients’ crisis though crisis intervention counseling and education with program clients.
· Puts client needs first, responds in a timely fashion to client needs.
· Provides supportive and crisis counseling to clients, families, and significant others.
· Assists clients in preparation of meals and areas of daily living skills.
· Assists clients in implementing individualized treatment plan goals.
· Educates clients on their mental illness and/or situation and teaches effective ways to maintain in the community.
· Supervises self-administration of medications per CSU Medical Guidelines policy established by physician orders and according to professional and Allwell guidelines.
· Coordinate and facilitate client participation in hobbies and leisure activities as scheduled.
· Facilitate house meetings with program clients according to CARF Standards and Allwell policy.
· Facilitate group activities and discussion as assigned.
· Keep Clinical Coordinator of Crisis Services/CSU Operations Manager updated on clinical/behavioral issues that may need additional intervention.
· Exercise ability to access, implement & evaluate treatment for client’s solution to problems.
· Participates in decisions regarding clients’ best interest. Assures clients have access to food, clothes, and resources for successful resolution of crisis. Provides supportive and empathic environment for program clients.
Complete admission and discharge planning with residents.
· Completes assigned items on admission checklist thoroughly.
· Engage client in the therapeutic process.
· Complete intake assessment.
· Assess readiness for discharge and the level of care needed by reviewing the case with the Clinical Coordinator of Crisis Services/CSU Operations Manager.
· Make appropriate referrals for internal and external programs.
· Help client make aftercare appointments when appropriate.
· Complete discharge checklist thoroughly.
· Assure completion of Consumer Satisfaction Survey at discharge.
Complete all necessary documentation.
· Complete CSU Individual Progress Note and/or CSU Group Progress Note depending on services provided for that shift.
· Complete daily activity log by end of shift.
· Complete incident reports by end of shift and ensure that it flows through appropriate channels.
Arranges transportation for clients through family or CPST services. Provides transportation when staffing allows and as needed or as directed by Clinical Coordinator or CSU Operations Manager.
Provides coverage for hotline services.
· Provides telephone assessments and crisis management services to callers.
· Makes decisions on when to involve Emergency Medical Personnel (i.e. police, sheriff, ambulance, Allwell Back-up staff.
· Develops plan with caller to manage crisis situation.
· Keeps Clinical Coordinator/Operations Manager informed of potential risk situations and contacts other Allwell professionals as indicated by assessment.
· Completes information and referral form, hang-up and wrong number sheet, crisis hotline call report sheet, and repeat caller sheet with clinical information as contained in call.
Communicates effectively with CSU staff, internal Allwell programs and other external agencies.
· Informs other team members of client treatment issues and discharge planning in a timely fashion.
· Participates in group supervision, internal staff meetings, in-services, and external workshops for professional growth and development.
Maintain interior and exterior of facility
· Assures clients rooms are clean and prepared for incoming clients.
· Assures entrance to Crisis Center is clean and presentable to incoming clients, visitors and community.
· Keep office area clean and free of clutter
· Maintains kitchen and bathrooms for sanitary purposes
· Takes out garbage as needed
· Completes cleaning checklist and cleans assigned area in a timely manner as assigned by supervisor.
Maintain the Quarterly/Annual Safety Drills and Reports
· Prepare drill report sheets & post them for CSU staff to know what shift & which drill is to be completed within that month.
· Once drill is completed and the Report Sheet completed, file it in the Notebook labeled Quarterly/Annual Drills.
· Keep the Operations Manager of Crisis Services informed of the status of the drills.
Will have access to and use of, as well as may create, Protected Health Information (PHI) of clients through verbal, written and electronic communications, as recorded and contained in ABHS’s clinical records and electronic healthcare record system. Will use and protect such identified client PHI by maintaining and respecting client privacy and confidentiality in conformance to federal HIPAA and state patient privacy laws and regulations and ABHS client confidentiality policies. Employee will only access and use the minimum necessary PHI required to perform their job duties.
REQUIREMENTS
· Must possess a minimum of Associates degree in related field, Bachelor degree preferred.
· QMHS qualified or able to get qualified with experience, education, or a combination.
· Demonstrates leadership and teaching abilities.
· Must have current Ohio Driver’s License, auto liability insurance
· Skills to be a self-starter, initiates conversation with residents.
· Possess or obtain CPR, First Aid and Crisis Intervention Training.
· Must have good problem solving, knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, and ability to assess need for more intense treatment.
· Must be able to work as a team member/leader.
