POSITION OBJECTIVE
Working under minimal supervision, the Analyst Programmer 3 will closely collaborate with the principal investigator and co-investigators to formulate and define integrated data systems for funded oral health disparities projects. In this role, the analyst programmer 3 will be an integral part of the research team for multiple research projects. This individual will formulate, design, deploy and maintain highly complex database systems, design data collection instruments, write programs to process the data, conduct statistical analyses, develop presentation methods, and coordinate real time, monthly, quarterly, annual and ad-hoc reports that compile results from multiple data sources within the evaluation system.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Analyze and define system scope based on the complex needs of the research project. Build the data management system related to electronic data capture, data cleaning, data analysis, custom report creation and remote data collection. Coordinate and take a lead role in screening and compiling data from multiple data sources. This includes conducting preliminary data screenings (missing data, distribution, etc.) to ensure the quality of the data. (30%)
- Design and/or modify applications such as REDCap to make recommendations for system improvements and enhancements specific to each study. Create custom forms leveraging REDCap custom modules and front end programming (HTML, CSS and Javascript). (25%)
- Monitor study progress in real time via custom reports and provide feedback and reports to the principal investigator, project manager, study staff and external reports for funding agencies on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. (15%)
- Develop plans to transition data from REDCap to statistical software (SAS, SPSS and/or R) for data cleaning and analysis. Conduct and/or verify the analysis of longitudinal dental data (ICDAS, DMFT) using SAS, SPSS and/or R. (6%)
- Work with users, application teams and technical staff to diagnose and resolve problems relating to a variety of research processes for data capture and study management. (6%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Deploy and maintain cloud based data captures platforms in the field and provide onsite technical support for these platforms. (5%)
- Design, code, test, debug, modify and document complex systems requiring thorough knowledge of the REDCap, REDCap custom modules, the REDCap API, Tableau, the Twilio API, the Google Maps API, and NIH RxNorm API. (5%)
- Contribute to the writing of publications; develop presentations for funding agencies, and present research to external bodies. (5%)
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. (3%)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no direct supervision of staff employees.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Education: Associate's degree and 5 years progressive experience OR Bachelor's degree and 3 to 5 years of progressive experience. Master's degree preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS

- Experience with data capture and coding of complex longitudinal clinical dental data, medical history data and medications data.

- Experience with statistical packages such as SAS, SPSS and/or R and managing the entire analysis process including handover of the final datasets, analysis code and codebooks.
- Programming experience in at least one computational language (C/C++, Perl, Python, or Java) for the purpose of real-time data analysis.
- Knowledge of network systems/operating systems supporting applications and the ability to troubleshoot these remotely.
- Demonstrated proficiency in front-end languages such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript for the purpose of designing custom data capture form and web-based applications for data collection and study management.
- Knowledge of relational databases for the purpose of maintaining complex relational databases that have clinical longitudinal data from multilevel trials.
- Advanced knowledge of operating systems such as Mac, iOS and Windows and the ability to troubleshoot these remotely.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft and Google productivity tools such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Sheets.
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud for the purpose of creating complex figures for publication and creating high quality print ready study documents.
- Demonstrated SHELL script experience.
- Willingness to learn and work with artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies.

WORKING CONDITIONS
General office environment. Limited manual dexterity required. Work requires negligible physical exertion. Little or no exposure to hazards. Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to housing sites to facilitate set-up and smooth execution of electronic data collection on a regular basis.
