Job Summary
The Lead Data Center OSP Technician is responsible for leading and executing complex fiber optic and structured cabling installations within large scale data center and commercial environments. This role combines advanced hands on technical expertise in outside plant (OSP) and inside plant fiber systems with crew leadership, project coordination, and quality oversight. The position requires strong knowledge of high count backbone fiber, precision splicing, documentation standards, and adherence to strict safety and security protocols. The ideal candidate demonstrates leadership capability, technical accuracy, and the ability to perform in high demand, fast paced construction settings.

Job Responsibilities

Lead and supervise installation teams to complete large scale OSP and data center fiber projects.

Install cable infrastructure, including fiber rough in, duct banks, handholes, manholes, and campus pathways.

Perform ribbon and fusion splicing on single mode and multi mode fiber, including high count backbone fiber (144, 288, 864+ strands).

Terminate fiber using ST, LC, SC, and SC APC connectors.

Conduct Fluke and OTDR testing and troubleshoot fiber systems to ensure performance standards are met.

Install, configure, and dress fiber trays, ladder racks, cabinets, cable management systems, and power trays.

Rack and stack equipment and build out server racks and rack elevations.

Manage cable dressing, labeling, bend radius compliance, and tension limits in accordance with industry standards.

Transition fiber pathways between outdoor OSP routes and indoor MPOE and meet me room environments.

Read and interpret blueprints, splice diagrams, and construction drawings.

Complete detailed documentation including as builts, splice records, labeling records, and test result submissions.

Receive materials, assemble hardware, and maintain tool control procedures.

Coordinate daily with general contractors, project managers, subcontractors, and site safety teams.

Conduct safety meetings, complete job hazard analyses, and enforce OSHA and site specific safety compliance.

Order materials, forecast labor needs, and submit change documentation to project management.

Train, mentor, and perform quality checks for technicians with varying experience levels.

Communicate professionally with team members and stakeholders in high security, controlled access environments.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or GED.

Minimum five years of experience as a Data Center Technician or OSP Fiber Technician.

Minimum five years of fiber installation experience, including fusion splicing and termination.

Proven experience leading crews of ten or more technicians.

OSHA 10 certification preferred.

Proficiency with OTDR testing, Fluke testing, and fiber troubleshooting tools.

Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings.

Experience working in high security, controlled access data center environments.

Strong documentation skills using tablets, project management software, and customer specific platforms.

Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain.

Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights using ladders and scissor lifts.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds as needed.

Ability to stand for extended periods during full shifts.

Required personal tools including basic hand tools, punch down tool, flashlight, steel toe or composite toe boots, gloves, and tool pouch.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Work Experience

At least five years of experience in data center or OSP fiber installations required.

Demonstrated experience managing large scale commercial or data center construction projects preferred.

Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)

Day shift schedule: 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Thursday and 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM Friday.

Night shift schedule: 6:30 PM to 6:00 AM Monday through Thursday and 6:30 PM to 2:00 AM Friday.

Work performed in a high security, badge access controlled data center campus environment.

Daily check ins, tool control procedures, and compliance with restricted area protocols required.

Work performed in a fast paced construction setting with multiple trades and tight project deadlines.

Outdoor and indoor work across underground duct banks, aerial pathways where applicable, splice trailers, shelters, and active data halls.

Strict adherence to safety standards including job hazard analyses, confined space procedures, traffic control protocols, and required personal protective equipment.
