The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the housekeeping staff within a healthcare, long-term care, or assisted living facility. This role ensures that the facility is clean, sanitary, and well-maintained by supervising staff, managing cleaning schedules, and adhering to infection control protocols. The Housekeeping Supervisor plays a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision of Housekeeping Staff:
- Lead and supervise the housekeeping team, providing training, support, and guidance to ensure high standards of cleanliness and safety.
- Create work schedules for the housekeeping staff, ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts and areas of the facility.
- Monitor the performance of housekeeping staff, conducting regular evaluations, providing feedback, and addressing performance issues as needed.
- Assist in the hiring and onboarding of new housekeeping employees.
Facility Cleanliness and Sanitation:
- Ensure that resident rooms, common areas, dining areas, and offices are cleaned and sanitized according to established cleaning protocols.
- Inspect the facility regularly to ensure cleanliness standards are met and address any areas that need improvement.
- Assist in cleaning when necessary to ensure all areas are maintained in a timely and thorough manner.
- Oversee the deep cleaning of specific areas, as required, and ensure adherence to infection control protocols, especially in high-risk areas.
Supply and Equipment Management:
- Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies and linens, placing orders as necessary to ensure that staff has the materials needed to perform their duties.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning tools.
- Maintain accurate records of supply usage, inventory, and cleaning schedules.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding health, safety, and sanitation standards.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols, including the proper use of cleaning chemicals, PPE, and equipment.
- Conduct training sessions on safety, cleaning procedures, and infection control for housekeeping staff.
- Report any maintenance or safety issues to the appropriate department to ensure the facility remains safe for residents, staff, and visitors.
Resident and Staff Relations:
- Respond promptly and courteously to housekeeping requests from residents, staff, and families, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Address any complaints or concerns related to cleanliness and work to resolve issues quickly and professionally.
- Maintain open communication with nursing staff and other departments to coordinate cleaning activities that may impact resident care.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education in hospitality, business management, or a related field is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in housekeeping, preferably in a healthcare or hospitality setting. Previous supervisory experience is highly desirable.
