Environmental Services Floor Technician

Healthcare Industry | Cleveland, Ohio

Role Overview

This Environmental Services Floor Technician position supports a leading healthcare organization in Cleveland by maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary environments across inpatient, discharge, and surgical areas. The role may also include work in exam rooms, offices, waiting areas, public restrooms, and other assigned non‑surgical outpatient spaces.

Floor Technicians play a critical role in infection prevention, patient safety, and hospital presentation. This is a physically demanding, fast‑paced position that requires strong attendance, consistency, and attention to detail throughout the full shift.

This role can serve as a career pathway into lead, supervisory, or other hospital support roles for individuals seeking long‑term growth in healthcare facilities operations.


Work Schedule

Multiple shifts are available based on operational needs:

  • Days: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Afternoons/Evenings: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Evenings/Nights: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
  • Late Evenings: 4:00 PM – 12:30 AM

Weekend Requirement:

  • Ability to work every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily floor care and cleaning of assigned areas, including:
    • Dust mopping, wet mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming
    • Gum removal and buffing of hard floor surfaces
    • Operation of floor care equipment
  • Complete waste stream removal and transport, including:
    • General waste
    • Recycling
    • Infectious waste
  • Follow strict procedures related to:
    • Patient isolation and infection control
    • Environmental Services technical and safety standards
  • Comply with hospital‑wide and departmental safety policies
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support operations

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Fast‑paced, high‑volume cleaning environment
  • Continuous movement throughout the shift
  • Work performed on hard surfaces for extended periods

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred

Experience

  • No prior experience required
  • On‑the‑job training provided

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision
  • Attention to detail and consistency in floor care quality
  • Willingness to learn proper use of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and safety procedures
  • Clear, courteous, and respectful communication
  • Flexibility with work assignments and locations

Physical Requirements

  • Continuous walking and standing on hard surfaces
  • Frequent bending, lifting, stooping, crouching, squatting, and reaching
  • Regular handling and use of disinfectants and cleaning agents
  • Light physical work:
    • Lifting 11–20 pounds occasionally
    • Up to 10 pounds frequently

Compensation

  • Hourly Pay Range: $16.50 – $20.25
  • Pay is based on experience, skills, and qualifications
  • Shift differentials and overtime may apply
