Position Overview
Healthcare Industry | Cleveland, Ohio
This Environmental Services Area Cleaner position supports a leading healthcare organization in Cleveland by maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary environments throughout patient‑care and public areas. Assigned areas may include patient rooms, discharge rooms, exam rooms, offices, waiting areas, public restrooms, and other ancillary spaces.
Area Cleaners play a vital role in patient safety, infection prevention, and hospital quality standards. This is an active, fast‑paced role that requires reliability, consistency, and attention to detail throughout the full shift.
This role may serve as a career pathway into lead, supervisory, or other hospital support roles within Environmental Services or related departments.
Work Schedule
Multiple shifts are available based on operational needs:
- Days: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- Afternoons/Evenings: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
- Evenings/Nights: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
- Late Evenings: 4:00 PM – 12:30 AM
Weekend Requirement:
- Ability to work every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean assigned areas daily, including:
- Patient rooms and discharge rooms
- Ancillary and exam rooms
- Offices, waiting areas, and public restrooms
- Stock paper products and supplies in patient rooms, exam rooms, and restrooms
- Follow established procedures related to:
- Patient isolation
- Infection control
- Environmental Services technical standards
- Comply with all hospital‑wide and departmental safety requirements
- Complete one to three months of on‑the‑job training to learn:
- Cleaning techniques
- Departmental policies and procedures
- Proper use and storage of cleaning agents and chemicals
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support operations
Work Environment & Expectations
- Fast‑paced, high‑volume healthcare environment
- Continuous movement throughout the shift
- Work performed on hard surfaces for extended periods

- Comfort working in clinical and patient‑care settings is required
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
Experience
- No prior experience required
- On‑the‑job training provided
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision
- Attention to detail and consistency in cleaning quality
- Willingness to learn proper use of cleaning products, equipment, and safety procedures
- Clear, courteous, and respectful communication
- Flexibility with work assignments and locations
Physical Requirements
- Continuous walking and standing on hard surfaces
- Frequent bending, lifting, stooping, crouching, squatting, and reaching
- Regular handling and use of disinfectants and cleaning agents
Light Physical Work:
- Lifting 11–20 pounds occasionally
- Up to 10 pounds frequently
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Follow standard precautions and use required PPE at all times
Compensation
- Hourly Pay Range: $16.00 – $18.38
- Pay is based on experience, skills, and qualifications
- Shift differentials and overtime may apply
