Position Summary
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs a variety of supportive resident care duties and provides services that promote comfort, safety, dignity, and the fulfillment of residents’ personal needs. The CNA works under the direction of licensed nursing staff and follows established care plans and organizational policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
• Assist residents with bathing, showering, oral care, hair care, toileting, skin care, nail care, dressing, and other ADLs according to care plans.
• Support residents with mobility, transfers, and safe ambulation using approved techniques and equipment.
Fall Prevention and Safety
• Implement fall‑prevention measures for residents identified as at risk.
• Ensure anti‑fall devices are in place and functioning.
• Report malfunctioning equipment or unsafe conditions immediately.
• Notify nursing staff of unsafe behaviors or attempts to ambulate without assistance.
Observation and Reporting
• Report changes in condition, appearance, or functional status to the nurse or supervisor promptly.
• Ensure residents have access to call lights and understand how to use them.
• Respond to call lights and pages promptly and courteously.
Selected Clinical Tasks (per policy and competency)
• Apply and care for compression stockings.
• Obtain and document vital signs and weights accurately.
• Perform intake and output measurements.
• Use mechanical lifts safely with required assistance.
• Assist with oxygen equipment, ensuring proper setup and monitoring.
• Apply braces, slings, and other supportive devices as directed.
Nutrition and Hydration
• Assist residents during meals and nourishments.
• Document intake after each meal.
• Notify nursing staff when intake is 50% or less or when concerns arise.
Infection Control
• Follow all isolation and infection‑prevention protocols, including hand hygiene, PPE use, and proper handling of linens and waste.
Admission Support
• Prepare resident rooms for new admissions.
• Ensure equipment is functional and supplies are available.
• Obtain initial vital signs and weight.
• Assist residents in settling in and organizing personal belongings.
• Complete personal belongings inventory documentation.
Environment and Personal Belongings
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of resident rooms and work areas.
• Complete resident laundry in a timely manner.
• Ensure clothing is labeled, stored properly, and in good condition.
• Report clothing needs or concerns to the supervisor or social services.
Documentation
• Complete all required documentation accurately and on time, including:
• Admission forms
• Care flow sheets
• Bowel movement records
• Dining intake
• Restorative care records
• Bath audits
Resident Dignity and Engagement
• Knock and announce before entering rooms.
• Address residents by their preferred name.
• Explain care before providing it.
• Ensure privacy during all care activities.
• Support residents in meaningful daily activities and social engagement.
Confidentiality
• Maintain resident confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
Care Planning
• Participate in care planning discussions and resident care conferences as appropriate.
Additional Responsibilities
• Maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality.
• Complete at least 12 hours of continuing education annually.
• Follow all safety procedures and uniform guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a state‑approved nurse aide training program.
• Current CNA/STNA certification (or completion of training with intent to test within 30 days).
• Basic computer literacy.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to kneel, reach, push, pull, talk, hear, and stand for extended periods.
• Ability to walk frequently and lift up to 40 lbs.
• Ability to assist with resident transfers up to 150 lbs. with help as needed.
• Ability to work in environments that may include exposure to bodily fluids, waste, pathogens, or residents experiencing confusion or agitation.
Working Conditions
• Clinical environment including resident rooms, care areas, and common spaces.
• Exposure to infection risks; PPE and universal precautions required.
• May encounter residents with behavioral changes, delirium, or confusion.
