Summer Youth Nutrition Educator

About the Job

NOCAC is seeking an energetic and dependable individual to serve as a Summer Youth Nutrition Educator through the AmeriCorps Healthy Harvest Corps program. This is a short-term, 300-hour summer service position focused on youth nutrition, food access, and community engagement.

Position Summary

The AmeriCorps Member will support our Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) by providing nutritious meals, leading healthy snack demonstrations, and ensuring activities for youth.

This is a service opportunity designed for individuals interested in education, nutrition, public health, social services, or community engagement.

What You’ll Do......

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead weekly healthy snack demonstrations using fresh produce
  • Research youth-friendly recipes
  • Explain nutritional benefits of featured foods
  • Administer daily meals to youth at the SFSP site
  • Ensure meals meet program requirements
  • Maintain food safety standards at all times
  • Train volunteers on food safety procedures
  • Complete daily program documentation accurately
  • Planning/ensuring fun enrichment activities (games, crafts, hands-on projects)
  • Work with community partners and volunteers

Schedule

  • 6 hours per day, Monday–Friday
  • Sample Schedule: 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • At least 19 years of age with a good driving record
  • Ability to pass AmeriCorps National Service Criminal History Check and drug screening
  • Desire to work with youth
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License and insurable through agency carrier
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good time management and sound judgment
  • Sensitivity to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
