Overview

Norbar Torque Tools is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager with a strong mechanical product design background to lead the US engineering team. This role is ideal for an experienced design engineer who enjoys remaining technically engaged while guiding projects from concept through manufacturing, validation, and customer deployment. The Engineering Manager will play a key role in developing new and custom torque solutions, improving manufacturing and calibration processes, and supporting customers across a wide range of industries. This position balances technical leadership, product ownership, and team management.

Responsibilities

* Lead and mentor the engineering team while remaining actively involved in mechanical design and technical problem solving.
* Own engineering projects from concept through detailed design, prototyping, testing, documentation, and production release.
* Develop deep technical expertise in Norbar torque tools, their applications, and the industries they serve.
* Design and review machined components and assemblies used in both static and dynamic applications.
* Plan and execute engineering projects focused on improving manufacturing, repair, and calibration processes and facilities.
* Support the Sales team with technical input, feasibility reviews, and cost estimates for custom engineered solutions.
* Work directly with customers and Sales to develop safe, effective, and practical product solutions.
* Occasionally travel to customer sites across the US for product demonstrations, training, and troubleshooting.
* Provide technical product support to Sales, Customers, and the Service department.
* Collaborate with Norbar's UK engineering team on product designs, technical issues, and design standards.
* Foster a collaborative, hands-on engineering culture and contribute wherever needed to support team success.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
* Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) required.
* Minimum of 5 years of mechanical product design experience in a manufacturing environment.
* Minimum of 3 years of experience leading or managing an engineering team.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Strong experience designing machined components and mechanical assemblies.
* Experience with components subjected to load, torque, vibration, and repeated use preferred.
* Proficiency in 3D CAD software and creation of clear, accurate 2D manufacturing drawings.
* Solid understanding of machining, fabrication, and assembly processes.
* Ability to evaluate designs for manufacturability, reliability, and serviceability.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Proven ability to balance hands-on engineering work with team leadership responsibilities.
* Willingness to travel occasionally within the United States.
* Valid driver's license required.

Supervisory Responsibilities
* Direct supervision of the Engineering Department.

Physical Demands
* Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, and move throughout the office and shop environment.
* Ability to use general shop hand tools.
* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment
* Work performed in a combined office and manufacturing/shop environment.
* Exposure to typical manufacturing conditions; no unusually disagreeable conditions expected.
