About the Job

A. Must serve the best interest of the children as mandated by child welfare standards.

B. Supervision of Youth

1. Supervise and maintain safety of male and female youth at the facility, outside activities, school functions, and public/private events.

2. Visually and audibly monitor youth activities, behaviors, and interactions: ability to document and draw conclusions or therapeutic suggestions.

3. Acts in the role of ‘guardian’ when in the presence of McCollough Children’s Home youth.

4. Transports individual and groups of youth by use of agency vehicles. Frequent transportation requirements are to and from school/bus stops, doctor’s appointments, home visits, worksites, counseling appointments, activities, court hearings, etc.

5. Assign and discipline strategies which are appropriate and logical.

6. Making competent logical decisions and giving or denying ‘permission’ considering, program status, court involvement, trust level, relationship, rules, etc.

7. Must acquire physical restraint, trauma informed approach, motivational interviewing, and any other trainings that are required within the first 30 days of employment, any additional trainings needed within the first year of employment and all annual trainings.

8. Teaches daily and independent living skills (I.E., laundry, cooking, cleaning, socialization, etc. Will prepare meals as needed (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Transport residents to and from residence (e.g., school activities, doctor appointments, hospital, if needed, etc.) and other duties as assigned.

Maintains daily records; answers telephone and routes to proper area or person; attends staff meetings (I.E through email, text, or virtual call), seminars, and workshops as required; other duties as directed by supervisor.

Attend seminars, conferences, and training sessions to enhance personal knowledge of trauma informed approaches, motivational interviewing, de-escalation, physical restraint, medication use/management, suicide prevention, safety, attachment, child/youth development, behavior management, effects of placement, learning theory, communicable disease/infection control, ACE assessment, Casey life skills, physical risks, workplace violence and CPR/First Aid methods; presents speeches to specialized audiences and public on services available at the Children’s Home; performs other duties as assigned
