About the Job

POSITION OBJECTIVE 

The Simulation Operations Specialists for Center for Nursing Education, Simulation, and Innovation (CNESI) will work in collaboration with Director of Simulation Operations, CNESI faculty manager, and faculty to provide effective support for CNESI simulation activities and programs. The primary responsibilities of the Simulation Specialists are to implement a variety of simulation scenarios with faculty and external clients and independently manage all aspects of these simulation scenarios while supporting the daily operations of the simulation center. The simulation specialist will provide technical expertise in the management of high- and low-fidelity simulation equipment, audio-visual equipment and standardized patients that support simulation programs.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  1. Implement a variety of simulation scenarios with faculty, students, and external clients. Independently manage all aspects of these simulation scenarios while supporting the daily operations of the simulation center. Analyze and organize equipment needs for complex simulation scenarios. Independently manage all aspects of a simulation program including set-up and tear down of equipment, standardized patients and supplies for all simulation activities. (30%) 
  2. Instruct users and supervise the use of equipment and technology. Enforce policies and procedures on the proper use of simulation equipment/technology. Troubleshoot equipment/technology using independent decision-making skills. Assess and resolve equipment malfunctions independently. (20%) 
  3. Manage the maintenance, repair, and cleaning of low/high fidelity equipment. Assist in the management of the equipment and supply database to ensure all resources are available for programs. Provide recommendations on equipment, supplies and materials. (20%) 
  4. Independently operate the audiovisual equipment such as video cameras and recorders, computers, and monitors. View, operate and record simulations using multiple cameras simultaneously via multiplexor. Make timed audio announcements via the VR system. (10%) 
  5. Assist with the Standardized Patient process for the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing. Guide standardized patients through simulation sessions using standardized coaching techniques used to prepare the standardized patient according to the program objectives. Facilitate support for events requiring student training, orientation, and coordination. Serve as a proctor for high/low stakes exams. (10%) 

 

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Prepare data for staff meetings. (2%) 
  2. Develop and maintain documents and/or processes to track, schedule, and record simulation activities. (4%) 
  3. Provide tours of simulation space as required. (2%)
  4. Perform other duties to support the day to day operations of the simulation centers as assigned. (2%)

 

CONTACTS 

Department: Regular contact with the Director of Simulation Operations, CNESI Faculty Manager, School of Nursing dean, associate and assistant deans, directors, faculty, and staff regarding simulation activities and programs. 

University: Regular contact with other faculty and staff; Occasional contact with simulation faculty and support staff from greater Health Education Campus as well as the other health science schools; Occasional contact with Biomedical Engineering faculty and support staff regarding simulation activities and programs.   

External: Frequent contact with clinical partner sites, visiting university faculty and officials, government agencies, consultants, public/private foundations, vendors, and other outside agencies regarding simulation activities and programs.  

Students: Frequent contact with teaching assistants, student employees, as well as current and prospective students regarding simulation activities and programs. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No staff supervisory responsibility. Provide direction and oversight to student employees.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience/Education: High School education and 7 years of related experience; or an Associate's degree and 5 years of related experience required. Experience in an academic health center, healthcare simulation experience and experience with equipment maintenance/troubleshooting is a plus.

  11. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face. 
  12. Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest.
  13. Willingness to learn and work with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and technologies.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is in the Samson Pavilion, 9501 Euclid Avenue, Center for Nursing Education, Simulation, and Innovation, located on the second floor. Card access is required for entry into the simulation center. Preparing for simulation programs involves constant set-up/tear-down of furniture and/or equipment. The position also involves transporting heavy equipment; lifting over 50 lbs. Travel is limited to locations in and around Northeast Ohio. Hours vary. A high degree of flexibility is required.
