Maintenance Technician-Electrical 

Primary Function

To inspect, repair, replace, adjust, install, wire and maintain all electrical and electronic equipment in the plant or assigned area including power transmission lines, transformers, and related equipment.  Make mechanical repairs as required in connection with electrical service.


Tools And Equipment

Wiring diagrams, drawings, electrical and electronic tools, gauges, calibrative and testing equipment, hand tools, drill press, hand grinder, commutator and bench lathe, electric drills, power hack saw, wire stripper, pipe threading machine, burning and welding equipment, soldering iron, pipe bender, bock and tackle, measuring tools, etc.  


Materials

A.C. and D.C. motors and generators, transformers, rectifiers, electronic controls and regulators: various mill electrical equipment, power distribution and control circuits, electronic computing and control systems, various types of instruments, data recording and processing equipment, control panels and circuits, electronic gauges and detectors, industrial T.V., public address systems, condensers, pumps, fans, poles, pole hardware, cable, wire, conduit and fittings, lighting fixtures, repair and replacement parts, lubricants, etc.


Source of Supervision


Foreman or immediate supervisor. Preforms work with a minimum of direction


Direction Exercised


Works alone or directs other workmen as required 


Working Procedure
1. Receives verbal or written instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repair and installation and inspection work to be done.
2. Analyzes all types of circuits and wiring diagrams to modify, service, install or repair all types of electronic devices and systems, various mill electrical equipment, electronic computing and control systems, power and distribution control equipment, measuring, recording, processing and control devices, indicating devices, instruments and gauges. 
3. Fabricates parts as required using machine and hand tools common to the trade.  Burns, brazes, solders, and performs simple layout, fabrication and welding in the servicing of electrical and electronic equipment, including related piping and mechanical components.
4. makes either temporary or permanent repairs or adjustments to equipment such as main motor drives, generators, control panels, relays, controllers, switchboards, circuit breakers, lighting circuits, resistors, etc.
5. Installs and repairs conduit, splices, and insulates wires and cables, makes splices on hot line, isolates circuits for repairs.
6. Maintains integrating, indicating or graphic electrical or mechanical instruments.
7. Makes mechanical repairs that are required in connection with the servicing of electrical and electronic equipment including cranes.
8. Advises when faulty equipment should be shut down for repairs.
9. Tests, repairs and/or adjusts electronic scales to correct any variation from accuracy.
10. Tests, repairs and adjusts electrical meters, such as osillograph, tachometer, ampmeter, voltmeter, power factor meter, phase shifter, etc
11. Cleans, paints, and lubricates equipment such as bearings, lights, reflectors, switch boxes, controls, pumps, compressors, fans, etc.
12. Installs, repairs, and maintains power transmission lines, transformers, high tension sub station equipment such as disconnects, switch gear, bushings, insulator slings, lighting arrestors, phase wire grounding equipment.
13. Erects poles and tower, installs cross arms, insulators, pole hardware, and lines, working from poles, ladders, and scaffolds.
14. Assists other maintenance or operating personnel in repair work as required.
15. Fills out reports of maintenance work preformed, part and materials used, inspections made, etc.
16. Operates cranes, machinery, mobile equipment, hydraulic lifts; erects and dismantles pipe scaffolds and performs necessary rigging duties in connection with the servicing of electrical and electronic equipment.
17. Maintains a safe, clean and orderly condition of work area and equipment. 


Compensation:
$36.61hr
Time and a half on Sunday
Double time if over 48hrs in first 5 days of the week
Double time if work 6th or 7th day
Low cost benefits starting at 90 days
Quarterly profit sharing after one year of employment
