The Opportunity: We are seeking to hire a Marketing Specialist. This individual works with the Director of Marketing & Development to increase the organization’s visibility by managing the brand image and the design of marketing materials, developing and implementing high-quality special events, and creating and executing internal and external communications plans.
What You’ll Do:
Marketing/Communications/Outreach
- Marketing partners: Collaborate with and coordinate with marketing and advertising partners.
- Social media: Develop and execute engaging, platform-specific written content for all social media channels (e.g., captions, threads, short-form copy) that drives interaction, awareness, and fundraising goals; manage interaction with social media audiences.
- Newsletters & email: Draft, edit, and manage content for regular internal and external newsletters, ensuring clear messaging, accurate information, and alignment with organizational voice.
- Public relations: Write and proofread professional press releases, media advisories, and talking points that effectively communicate key organizational news, events, and positions to the media; participate in and track outreach activities of staff, including speaker’s bureau, tabling, and tours
- Web content: Create, update, and optimize written content for the organizational website, including blog posts, landing page copy, mission/program descriptions, and calls-to-action, ensuring SEO best practices are followed; manage interaction with website audience.
- Informational & marketing materials: Produce clear, concise, and persuasive copy for various print and digital collateral, including brochures, program summaries, informational packets, and presentation scripts/slides for PowerPoint.
- Internal communications: Develop and maintain consistent, professional internal communications (e.g., memos, staff announcements, policy summaries) that promote transparency and foster a cohesive organizational culture.
- Editing & proofreading: Serve as an editor, ensuring all external and internal communications are free of errors, adhere to the established style guide, and maintain a consistent, professional brand voice.
Event Support and Coordination
- In close collaboration with the Director of Marketing and Development, the Communications Specialist will provide crucial support for organizational events, ensuring successful execution and optimal communication before, during, and after.
- Promotional Communications: Draft and/or coordinate event-related communications, including save-the-dates, invitations (print and digital), registration pages, thank-you messages, and follow-up surveys.
- Logistics Assistance: Assist with practical event logistics, which may include vendor coordination, volunteer scheduling, managing RSVPs and attendee lists, and preparing on-site materials (e.g., signage, programs, name badges).
- On-Site Support: Provide reliable, professional support during events, often acting as a key point of contact for attendees, media, and vendors.
- Materials Preparation: Ensure all communication and marketing materials required for the event (brochures, fact sheets, presentation slides) are finalized, printed, and delivered on time.
- Post-Event Follow-up: Coordinate post-event communications, including drafting donor acknowledgments, summarizing event successes for internal reports, and organizing media coverage clippings.
- Track planning activities with a timeline document or other tracking method
- Additional responsibilities for Art of Recovery:
- Work with Art Therapy staff to identify art and artists to be used for sale and for display
- Create and maintain thorough databases of CSS artwork and business and organizations willing to display clients’ art
Coordination of Volunteers
- Create and maintain a database of volunteers and volunteer opportunities
- Recruit and train new volunteers, match volunteers with opportunities that suit their skills, keep volunteers informed, and convey the organization’s purpose to the public
- Build and maintain volunteer engagement and support

What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English, public relations, journalism or related field.
- A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working in a marketing or communications position.
- Must have excellent writing and editing skills and be able to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Strong time-management and organizational skills
- Ability to document personal identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act [I-9] requirements.
