HX5 is currently seeking a Thermal/Fluids Engineer to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will provide thermal and fluids engineering support to NASA’s Glenn Research Center (GRC) for hydrogen / oxygen regenerative fuel cells in lunar applications. This includes basic analytical work, experimental design, test stand build-up, and testing for electrochemical, electrical, fluidic, and thermal (including cryogenic) components and sub-systems.

Required Skills:

  • Strong experience testing fluidic components including assembling, verifying, and operating fluidic systems at temperature ranges from cryogenics through high temperature combustion (< -196 deg C to > +950 deg C).
  • Must have experience with executing hardware development test plans, data analysis, reporting, and conducting uncertainty analyses.

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with fuel cell and/or electrolysis hardware at both the stack and system levels preferred. While the immediate relevance is for experience with the PEM chemistry, other electrochemical chemistries are acceptable (e.g. alkaline (KOH or NaOH), Direct Methanol, Molten Carbonate, Phosphoric Acid, or Solid Oxide).
  • Familiarity designing and/or operating hardware for extreme thermal environments or aggressive chemical environments preferred.

Education/Experience:

Mechanical or Chemical Engineering degree from an accredited program, with the following education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 to 10 years of experience; at least 8 years is preferred. 
  • Master’s degree with 3 to 6 years of experience.
  • Ph.D. with 0 to 3 years of experience.

Other Position Requirements:

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
