Position: Water Treatment Operator / Trainee
Location: Mentor, Ohio
Hours: Rotating shifts in a 24-hour operation (includes weekends and holidays)
Pay: $18.25/hr. – Trainee (no OEPA Water Supply Certificate)
$20.50 – $27.71/hr. – With OEPA Water Supply Certificate
Additional Premiums:
• Class I License: +$1.50/hr.
• Class II License: +$1.75/hr.
• Class III License: +$2.25/hr.
• 2nd Shift Premium: +$1.50/hr.
• 3rd Shift Premium: +$3.00/hr.
• Saturday/Sunday Premium: +$2.25/hr.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Water Treatment Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining treatment equipment, pumps, instruments, and related systems to monitor and control plant processes. This role ensures the production of safe drinking water through routine monitoring, testing, and operational adjustments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine plant rounds to inspect processes and equipment for proper operating conditions.
- Collect water samples and conduct laboratory analysis of untreated and treated water.
- Maintain documentation required for water quality compliance.
- Monitor plant and distribution system conditions and adjust treatment processes as needed.
- Perform general maintenance, housekeeping, and ensure facility security.
- Maintain accurate operational, maintenance, and communication records.
- Work rotating shifts in a 24-hour operation including weekends and holidays.
- Working knowledge of mathematics.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to learn water treatment chemistry principles and laboratory techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and record-keeping ability.
- Effective time management, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to perform physical labor and work in a shift-based, 24-hour operational environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license with safe driving record.
- Ability to pass required drug screening.
- Must possess, or obtain within 18 months of hire, an OEPA Class I Water Supply Certification.
