HX5 is currently seeking an aerospace engineer to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will support the modeling, and simulation of propulsion, power, and thermal technologies for electrified aircraft propulsion (EAP) systems. Primary objectives are in development, evaluation, and validation of EAP models that will facilitate testing of advanced control algorithms to improve the efficiency, operability, and safety of EAP systems.
The chosen candidate should be knowledgeable about EAP systems, with an emphasis on application to advanced control systems including multi-variable, optimal, and model predictive algorithms. Primarily, the selected candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Develop models and simulations for EAP applications
- Support hardware-in-the-loop testing and evaluation of advanced control algorithms
- Support data processing and perform trade studies of EAP applications
This effort is monitored by the Intelligent Control and Autonomy Branch at NASA GRC, which conducts research and development of technologies to increase the level of intelligence and autonomy in complex aerospace space systems with a strong focus on aero-space propulsion systems.
Required Skills:
- Proficient in Matlab and Simulink
- Experience in modeling and simulation of aerospace systems
- Experience or knowledge of advanced control methods
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly motivated and able to work independently
- Committed to successful collaboration with the NASA team and partners
Desired Skills:
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing
- Experience or knowledge of electrified aircraft systems
- Experience working on NASA projects
Education/Experience:
Completed at least a bachelor of science degree in a STEM-related major, from an accredited program, with the following education and experience:
- Master’s degree with 0 to 3 years of experience
- Bachelor’s degree with 2 to 5 years of experience
Other Position Requirements:
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for this position.
- Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
