HX5 is currently seeking two temporary Instructors to co-teach the High School Engineering Institute on-site at NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) in support of the GEARS contract in Brook Park, OH.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

HX5 administers the NASA Glenn High School Engineering Institute, which provides a one-week experience at Glenn Research Center for high school students who have demonstrated a high aptitude in engineering and are highly motivated to pursue careers at NASA. The Institute is repeated over three weeks in July (July 6-23) and is attended by twenty students per week. Students work in teams to complete three engineering projects based on existing Capstone curriculum in the areas of Simulated Lunar Operations, Power Management and Distribution, and Acoustic Damping. Engineers working in these areas will also interact with the students via presentations and facility tours. There is a culminating event that students and their families may attend.

The instructors will be supported by other team members who will assist with student selection, sending offer letters, arranging badging, setting up computers and supplies, organizing tours, and organizing the closing ceremony.

Candidates must be available (full-time onsite at NASA GRC) from July 6 through July 23, 2026 and should also have at least part-time availability in the weeks leading up to the Institute to become familiar with the curriculum. Candidates should also have part time availability after the Institute to document the experience and lessons learned.

Required Skills:

  • Strong STEM Education experience teaching advanced high school students
  • Python programming of Raspberry Pi
  • Script programming of Arduino Microprocessors
  • Experienced in Autodesk Tinkercad 3-D Designs and Circuits
  • Knowledge of DC Circuits (LEDs, Resistors, etc) and AC Components (Amplifiers, Speakers)

Other Desired Skills:

  • Strong presentation skills
  • Experience teaching pre-engineering courses
  • Ability to follow an existing curriculum
  • Good recordkeeping and organizational skills
  • Experience using 3D printers

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree, with a minimum of 5 years of experience, in Education or Science related field.

Other Position Requirements:

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
