SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have at least 1 months of verifiable experience in all job duties. This job requires exposure to extreme temperatures, ability to lift 50 lbs., repetitive movements, extensive walking, frequent stooping, extensive pushing and pulling, drug screen.
JOB DUTIES: Handling manual tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities.
ALL WORKERS ARE EXPECTED TO BE AVAILABLE TO WORK IN ALL AREAS OF PRODUCTION. Workers will be involved in planting, wedding and harvesting miscellaneous specialty flowers. Harvesting Gladiolus: Employees will harvest gladiolus working in teams of two or three. Cut the flower stem to remove flower from plant according to supervisor's instructions and bundles approximately 85 stems together in special made flower straps. There is a mandatory production standard of eight (8) bundles of cut flowers per worker per hour. Employees will be required to carry full bundles to field roadways. Load and unload harvesting bundles of gladiolus, sunflowers, and miscellaneous specialty flowers: Worker will pick up harvested bundles of the above listed flowers from the field roadways and place on the rear end of the field truck and stack in the truck. Worker will also unload harvested bundles and place bundles on carts or floor per variety. Farm Equipment Operation During Field Operations: Workers will be required to operate field trucks and passenger vans as an incidental activity in the production of harvesting crops. Before any worker is required to operate any farm equipment, the worker will be instructed in the proper and safe operation of the vehicle. Workers must notify supervisor of any mechanical issues. Workers will perform maintenance on vehicles as needed, according to supervisor’s instructions. Workers will be required to operate vehicle according to instructions and in a manner, that protects the operator, other workers and equipment. Repeated failure to obey operation and safety instructions may result in termination. Workers with proper licenses will use company vehicles to transport employers’ crops, tools and fellow workers on public roads. Peony Flower Harvest: Workers will harvest the above listed flowers according to supervisor instructions. Employee will cut the flower stems to remove the flower from the plant, then carry full bundles of harvested flowers to the field roadways and p lace in wooden cubes by variety. Harvesting Sunflower and Miscellaneous Specialty Flower Harvest: Workers will harvest the above listed flowers according to supervisor instructions. Employee will cut the flower stems to remove the flower from the plant, remove the leaves bundle the flowers together in special made flower straps, then carry full bundles of harvested flowers to the field roadways. Bouquet Processing: Employees will process bouquets of gladiolus, sunflowers, peony and miscellaneous specialty flowers: working in teams of two. Flowers are to be graded and banded according to supervisor's instructions. There is a mandatory production standard of 1,750 stems processed per worker per hour. Employees are required to maintain a clean work area on and around their bouquet processing tables. Mixed Bouquet Processing: Employee will process bouquets of mixed gladiolus, sunflowers, peony and miscellaneous specialty flowers. Flowers will be graded and mixed and banded according to supervisor's instructions. Feeding Bundles/Flowers: Worker will feed/carry un-bunched bundles of gladiolus, sunflowers, peony and miscellaneous specialty flowers to Bouquet Processing tables according to the supervisor’s instructions. The employee may receive the un-bunched bundles/flowers from the floor and in some instances from another person or a cart. Employee will remove the belts and piece tag from the gladiolus bundles and place them in the appropriate container.
EMPLOYER ASSURANCES:
BOARD ARRANGEMENTS: Employer will furnish free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities so workers are able to prepare their own meals. The employer will provide transportation to assure workers access to stores where they can purchase groceries.
HOUSING: Employer-provided housing is available for all workers who live outside a reasonable daily driving distance.
TRANSPORTATION TO WORK SITE: The employer will provide transportation for all workers living in the employer-provided housing to and from the daily work site(s).
WORKERS COMPENSATION INSURANCE: Provided.
TOOLS, SUPPLIES, EQUIPMENT: Tools, supplies, and equipment needed to complete the job will be provided by the employer at no cost to the worker.
