Position: Director of Career Services - On Campus, Full-time

 

Description:

This position is accountable for developing, supervising, and evaluating career development activities and employment services for students, alumni, community agencies, and employers.

 

Tasks and duties will include, but may not limited to:

  • Assists students in obtaining part-time employment while enrolled, full-time employment upon graduation, and new employment or career changes for alumni
  • Perform networking, communication, and management tasks at a high level both written and verbal
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite, Colleague, Business Object Reports, online job boards, and social media to pull reports, access student records, and communicate with employers
  • Help students develop skills for career planning and employment
  • Develop and maintain records pertaining to career services to include employment files, graduate lists, a resource library, and alumni files
  • Host career fairs and on-campus networking opportunities for students to attend
  • Post jobs and plan employer campus visits and/or interview sessions
  • Communicate open employment opportunities to instructors, students, and alumni through various platforms
  • Set up employer campus tours that are scheduled through Career Services
  • Establish and maintain relationships with national, regional, and local companies
  • Oversee and post positions for Work Study Program (COAT and COB)
  • Send out surveys to students in their last session to update contact information and to begin tracking employment six months after graduation
  • Document and track employment of graduates through text messages, emails, and phone calls
  • Maintain Racer Careers site (Handshake) and UNOH Career Services Facebook page
  • Train University Services Student worker job duties related to Career Services
  • Assist students in completing professional resumes and cover letters
  • Tailor resumes and cover letters for specific job descriptions
  • Compare student resumes to job listings, and coach students on building their resume to meet the requirements of desired employment opportunities
  • Coach students on the interview process, networking, keeping resumes up to date, career planning, and professional email writing
  • Stay up to date on soft skills training and conduct seminars and learning opportunities for students
  • Research and keep department up to date on technology and industry trends when it comes to resumes, cover letters, job application, and interviewing processes
  • Provide career planning advice to students, and help them build their resume through part time work and on-campus clubs/activities
  • Stay up to date on internship opportunities and school co-op partnerships
  • Work with International Student Services to stay up to date on laws, regulations, and policies regarding employment, internships, and CPT/OPT for international students
  • Work off-campus events such as trade shows, business forums, races, and seminars to further develop the network of employers
  • Work orientation and open house events and engage students and parents
  • Assist students with building professional online profiles for job boards and data bases such as Handshake and LinkedIn
  • Understand employment offerings such as sign-on bonuses, benefit packages, tool allowances, tuition reimbursement, salary/hourly/flat rate pay, and flex schedules
  • Work with program advisors and instructors to prepare students for networking opportunities on school sponsored trips (AMA Conference, Super Bowl, Final 4, Volusia Speed Weeks, PRI, etc.)
  • Complete visits to First-Year Experience and Capstone classes to coach students on being prepared for employment
  • Maintain budget for activities, career fairs, travel, event fees, and all other department needs
  • Actively work with VP of University Services and other departments to complete future planning and sustainability analysis
  • Works with staff and faculty to determine skills necessary for various career fields by attending department chair meetings etc.
  • Maintains contact with the business community to develop knowledge of job requirements and to develop leads for employment purposes.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong people, organizational and planning skills
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with little supervision
  • Knowledge of job market trends and post-secondary education
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse population.
