POSITION: Program Specialist

SALARY: $22.00 - $25.00/hour

MINIMUM REOUIREMENTS
Knowledge of human relations; knowledge of public relations; knowledge of safety practices and procedures; knowledge of relative court procedures; records and prepares reports; ability to carry out oral and written instructions; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with residents, coworkers, outside agencies; ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing; ability to respond effectively to crisis intervention situations; ability to establish facts and draw valid conclusions; skill in typing; ability to certify in both first aid and CPR procedures.
Pre-employment physical and drug screen required.

Job Responsibility:
Under general supervision, is responsible for the orientation of all new detention staff, the on-going training of all staff, and the coordinating/directing of all daily resident programming.
Illustrative Duties:
- Provides forty (40) hours of orientation to newly hired direct care staff. Documents all orientation training provided.
- Creates a training file for each staff for complete training records.
- Trains all new staff consistently and thoroughly, documents all training.
c, Explains all policies and procedures to line staff during aforementioned orientation training.
- Performs competency testing on policies and procedures reporting results to management staff.
- Ensures those staff who fall short in certain areas and/or failing tests are receiving retraining.
- Develops I implements annually a training agenda; assures all staff receives forty (40) hours annual training.
- Assures consistent, timely training -when it is supposed to happen it should happen.
- Training Module updates - ensure that all modules match policy and procedure manual.
- Communicate with line staff and supervisors on training input; Inclusion of staff, when interested, in training.
- Tests for staff after completion of training
- Certify and recertify all supervisors and all line staff on the following:
- CPR
- FirstAid
- Crisis Prevention (CPI)
- Contraband Prevention
- Intake Search Procedures
- Provides annual training, at a minimum, in:
- Emergency evacuation - fire, bomb threat, tornado, hostage situations
- Suicide Prevention
- Major Incident Report writing
- Secure transport; leg I wrist restraint use
- Verbal de-escalation (CPI)
- Defensive Tactics
- Prison Rape Elimination Act
- Cultural Diversity
- Ethics
- Reviews and critiques all major incidents for procedural compliance and reports to Detention Director,
- Review all incidents requiring an MIR to assure policy/procedures compliance, lead debriefings, and follow up review meetings with staff when is necessary.
- Ensure that all MIRs are properly detailed and grammatically written,
- Research available outside training opportunities and/or schedules special presentations by outside sources: a, Trauma b, Adolescent Development
- Problematic Sexualized Behavior
- Chemical Dependency
- Gender Diversity

- Conflict Resolution
- Depression and other mental health ailments
- Develop and lead daily resident programming, to include, but not limited to:

- Oversee all Multi-Purpose Room Activities

- Develop Individualized Programming for Residents who are:
- Direct Sentenced Youth
- High School Graduates
- Unable to participate with a group.
- Interact with Behavioral Health, Juvenile Court, and outside agencies to assist in facilitating expedited detention releases.
1 1. Act as a Shift Supervisor in their absence
- Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Desirable for Employment: Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge, and abilities listed above. An example of acceptable qualifications for this position is: completion of the twelfth school grade or GED and experience working with young people in a correctional setting.
Possession of a valid Ohio Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
