Description of the Job:
Under the supervision of the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Utilities Director. Responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing water mains, pumping stations, and filtration equipment; and performs maintenance to buildings and grounds.
Essential Functions to be Performed:
- Performs repairs and maintenance on water mains and pumping stations and installs water service to customers from water mains;
- Performs repairs and maintenance on chlorine equipment which involves electrical, pipefitting and hydraulic skills;
- Repairs and tests water meters;
- Installs and repairs meter pits;
- Reads industrial, commercial and residential water meters;
- Repairs broken water mains, water services, hydrants, and valves;
- Assists in small purchases and receiving, storing, and issuing of supplies, tools and equipment;
Essential Functions to be Performed (cont'd):
- Operates and inspects various vehicles and equipment, including CDL vehicles;
- Operates and performs basic routine maintenance and makes necessary repairs;
- Works irregular or expanded hours in cases of emergencies;
- Notifies Superintendent when additional supplies, equipment or repairs are needed;
- Works on-call hours as scheduled with the water staff.
Other Functions to be Performed:
- May assist in training and orienting new employees;
- Performs OUPS locates;
- Assists in maintaining inventory of equipment, supplies and vehicles;
- Communicates information to general public, personnel, contractors, suppliers, etc. responding to inquiries and complaints;
- May assist in an explanation of policies and procedures;
- Maintains, records, compiles data and prepares reports as required;
- Attends meetings and seminars;
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of the twelfth school grade or GED;
- Three (3) years of work experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance;
- Ability to obtain possession of Class A, Ohio Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - (requires three written tests: General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combination Vehicle);
- Must possess or be able to obtain an Ohio EPA Class I Water Supply Operator License within two (2) years of hire date;
- Knowledge of the operation of filtration equipment, air hammer, tap machines and air compressors; Knowledge of equipment operation, maintenance and repair;
Knowledge of public relations;
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and on an on-call basis;
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide;
- Ability to spell and write legibly;
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and supervisors; Ability to learn and follow safety rules and regulations;
Physical Requirements:
- Lift/carty a minimum of eighty-five (85) pounds.
- Reaching with bilateral upper extremities into/up to/down to various heights.
- Bend, stoop, and squat.
- Push/pull with twenty five (25) pounds of initial force.
- Climb ladders/stairs.
- Able to withstand extreme temperatures and vibration exposure with equipment tool use. Operate heavy equipment
