HX5 is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. Founded in 2004, HX5 is a fast-growing veteran- and woman-owned company with locations nationwide.
HX5 is currently seeking a Fluid Systems Engineer to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In support of NASA GRC’s Subsonic Vehicle Technologies and Tools (SVTT) project exists an activity to develop a concept for a 5MW cryogenically cooled motor, along with a subscale demonstrator motor. This work effort will focus on one aspect of overall stator risk reduction efforts which is the closed loop cryogenic cooling system. The stator risk reduction test effort will inform the overall design and work out issues prior to the full motor demonstration.
The selected candidate will support the design of the closed loop stator cooling system and provide technical support to NASA Armstrong Test Facility (ATF) personnel implementing the subscale demonstration motor test. The focus of the support will be to prepare the NASA Electric Aircraft Testbed for cryogenic use. This will involve collaboration with engineering team members to support the development of the stator hardware. This includes supporting all phases of the effort including design, documentation, specification and technical support required to define, develop, and document the cryogenic helium closed loop statorette cooling system. The core of the cooling system will be a helium expansion engine which is a self-contained system. The effort will include identification and documentation of all activities required to inspect, refurbish, repair, update, and otherwise make this helium expansion engine suitably operational.

- Development of fluid system manufacture/integration documentation.
- Development of fluid system operations documentation.
- Extensive experience working with Pressure Systems.
- Substantive experience coordinating with electrical engineers, electrical technicians, and mechanical technicians.
Other Desired Skills:
- Experience working helium systems operating at 20K (or lower).
