Division of Plastic Surgery

Description of APP Role:

Work collaboratively with families and a multidisciplinary health team (The Cleft and Craniofacial team which consists of Human Genetics, Plastic Surgery, ENT, Pulmonary, Audiology, Speech Therapy, Dentistry, Orthodontics, Dietitian, and Social Work) to provide coordinated care management for infants, children, adolescents, and some adult patients with a Cleft lip and/or palate, Craniosynostosis, or other Craniofacial Conditions.

This is primarily an outpatient position that includes individual clinics and participation in multidisciplinary team clinics. Support for inpatients is also included. The APP role will assist with managing infant feeding of the cleft population as a newborn, provide surgical education for upcoming surgeries (e.g. cleft lip repair, palate and VPI procedures), and make referrals to subspecialties when indicated.

Job Duties include:

Manage newborn cleft feedings and monitoring growth.

Developmental screening from newborn through childhood.

Pre-op teaching for craniofacial procedures (e.g. cleft related procedures)

Oversee care coordination by craniofacial nursing team

Referrals to appropriate subspecialties

Participation in quality improvement and research initiatives

Preferred Experience:

Minimum 2 years pediatric nursing experience with emphasis in area of specialty

Master's degree in nursing AND Current license to practice nursing in the State of Ohio. Certification as an advanced practice nurse appropriate to meet requirements of Nurse Practitioner position (e.g., PNP or FNP) required AND Certificate to prescribe as applicable

Master's degree in physician assistant studies

Qualifications:

Certification- FNP, PNP-PC preferred

Physician Assistant NCCPA Certification

**Specialty experience preferred: Pediatric, primary care or neonatology

experience preferred

Schedule:

* Shift length- 8 hours

* Straight Day Shifts

* No holidays

* No weekends

* No call

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

* Patient Care- Perform history and/or physical exams on patients presenting for care in area of expertise. Assess and diagnose illnesses, including chronic and acute conditions. Formulate, document and monitor a treatment plan. Order and monitor therapeutic interventions including but not limited to diets, laboratory, radiological and diagnostic tests as deemed necessary by patient history and/or physical exam. Provide clinical consultation, order interdisciplinary consults. Professional practice including but not limited to prescription of medications in accordance with Federal and State Law & Rules and CCHMC policy. Attains and maintains competency in subspecialty practice, skills and procedures in accordance with Joint Commission standards for focused (FPPE) and ongoing (OPPE) professional practice evaluation.

* Outcomes Identification and Planning- Develops outcomes as measurable goals that provide direction for continuity of care & continuity of care & consistency among providers. Develops, prioritizes, evaluates & modifies an individualized comprehensive plan of care. Addresses each diagnosis or issue, as appropriate. Derives outcomes & plans of care that involve the patient/family/caregiver when possible & are realistic to the patient/family/caregiver capabilities & resources. Considers risks/benefits, costs, clinical effectiveness, current scientific evidence/clinical guidelines & clinical expertise to formulate interventions, treatments & outcomes. Incorporates new knowledge & strategies to initiate change in practice if desired outcomes not achieved. Maintains documentation & updates accordingly outcomes, goals & the plan of care.
