Job Description

Summary of Position

Teach face-to-face courses in English composition at our Steubenville, Ohio location and possible online class assignments for all YSU students. Assignments will include teaching Developmental Writing, Writing 1, and Writing 2 courses that fulfill the General Education Requirement in writing for all YSU students. Opportunities to teach Honors sections may also arise.


Faculty members are expected to maintain a consistent, in-person presence on location throughout the standard workweek. This includes being available on-site each day to support students, collaborate with colleagues, and participate fully in the academic life of the institution. Regular on-site engagement during normal business hours is an essential component of this role. 



Position Information

Plans, organizes, teaches, and provides feedback to promote and direct student success. Responds to students in a timely manner. Communicates with students, departments, and university officials via university provided tools and resources.

Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday, potentially some evenings, and the possibility of some weekend days. Face-to-face instruction, including office hours. 


Primary Location: Steubenville, Ohio with possibility for online course assignments. Some travel to YSU Campus, Youngstown, Ohio may be required.


Qualifications and Competencies

Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures: None


Sponsorship and/or Work Authorization Status: This position is not eligible for sponsorship.


Minimum Qualifications: At least a masters in English or another equivalent field. Two years’ teaching experience at high school or college level. 


Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrates Interest and experience in multiple levels of composition, including developmental and honors; experience teaching fully online, ability to utilize technology to support multimodal teaching and learning; experience teaching a variety of student populations.
