Job Description Summary
The Associate Director of Outreach, Recruitment, and Retention leads student recruitment and engagement strategies for the John W. Altman Institute’s programs, including the Institute application process, the Living Learning Community (LLC), Altman Summer Scholars, and other experiential opportunities. This role focuses on building enrollment pipelines, improving student retention, and advancing the Institute’s visibility through coordinated outreach efforts. The Associate Director works in close partnership with the University Communications and Marketing (UCM) team to develop an annual marketing plan and aligned, brand-compliant marketing materials to support outreach efforts. The Associate Director contributes content ideas, messaging input, and storytelling concepts that highlight student experiences, program outcomes, and Institute impact.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead recruitment for all Institute programs (LLC, Scholars, internships, co-curricular experiences), developing and implementing outreach strategies, including targeted efforts to engage non-FSB students.
- Partner with Admissions, Orientation, Honors College, academic advisors, Career Services, and local high schools to build diverse enrollment pipelines.
- Support student retention and engagement across all Institute programs.
- Coordinate the student ambassador program, including recruitment, training, and deployment for outreach events.
- Identify outreach and communication needs, collaborating with FSB Marketing and Communications to translate this into an annual marketing and communications plaContribute content, messaging input, and storytelling that highlight student experiences, program outcomes, and Institute impact to be used across web, social media, and print materials.
- Manage social media, digital content, and newsletters.
- Support updates to the Institute’s website and digital assets in coordination with marketing partners, ensuring content accuracy and relevance.
- Support donor recognition, alumni engagement visibility, and external-facing communications.
- Use student participation and engagement data to support recruitment strategies and marketing initiatives.
- Produce insights and reports that support program growth, outreach activities, and student success stories.
- Work collaboratively with the Associate Director of Experiential Learning / outreach, recruitment and retention in order to meet Altman Institute goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Three years of progressively responsible experience in student recruitment, enrollment management, outreach, or related program coordination, preferably in higher education.
- Demonstrated experience supervising staff, student leaders, or program teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in business administration, higher education administration, student affairs, or a related field.
- Experience managing student recruitment, retention, or co-curricular programs, including living learning communities or ambassador programs.
- Experience in marketing, communications, social media strategy, or digital content management.
- Familiarity with program assessment, reporting, and using participation data to inform strategy.
- Experience building relationships with prospective students, high schools, admissions offices, and community partners.
- Experience coordinating with alumni, mentors, or external partners to support outreach and recruitment initiatives.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple programs, events, and campaigns simultaneously.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience using data and metrics to inform recruitment strategies, program outreach, or student engagement initiatives.
