Job Description

This is for the position of Security/Bailiff for the Clark County Municipal Court. This position reports to the Chief Bailiffand Sergeant and assists in carrying out the duties and assignments of the department.


Examples of Duties

  1. Provide security for the Court Facility to include staff, public, and prisoners.
  2. Conduct daily security checks required by his/her assignment.
  3. Maintain the integrity of the court by controlling the demeanor of participants in the criminal justice process both inthe courtroom and outside the courtroom.
  4. Conduct inspections of all security equipment such as duress alarms, telephones, fire extinguishers, etc.
  5. Safeguard evidence / exhibits as directed.
  6. Submit promptly, all required reports, forms and returns.
  7. Announce opening and closing of court and administer oaths.
  8. Serve legal process, both criminal and civil.
  9. Attend all in-services as directed by the Chief Bailiff.
  10. Conduct investigations of incidents, criminal and non-criminal.
  11. Staff security checkpoint at the front door.
  12. Follow chain of command.
  13. Take direction from any supervisor, or Judge/Magistrate in the building.
  14. Advise a supervisor of any malfunction of equipment.
  15. Keep in radio contact with other security staff while in the building.
  16. Patrol all hallways, restrooms, basement, Clerk’s Office and general office areas.
  17. Transport any prisoners to and from jail.
  18. Follow each courtroom’s policies and procedures.
  19. Respond to any panic or duress alarms.
  20. Serve warrants and make necessary arrests.
  21. Stand by for any requests for officer.
  22. Provide escorts.
  23. Respond to any medical emergency and assist with any necessary aid.
  24. Serve as a court recorder.
  25. Conduct indigency interviews as assigned.
  26. Review policies, procedures, and practices.
  27. Perform other duties as assigned.
